saw Nobody (action thriller with Bob Odenkirk) last night. One exceptional fight scene (the bus scene for those that have seen it) and overall pretty entertaining but did feel like a weak John Wick knockoff at some points. Also some points where I feel like the film didn’t earn my suspension of disbelief

I haven’t watched any of them yet… might need to change that this weekend.

Agree with everything, except the bolded, which I very much disagree with:saw Poor Things. I enjoyed it and it’s definitely worth a watch but my god, why the **** do filmmakers these days love making movies that are too long? 2 hours would’ve been a perfect runtime for it but there was a kind of random plot thread at the end that drags on and adds almost nothing to the story. The pay off for it was eye roll-y
that said, still really smart, quite funny and very “weird”, but in an intriguing manner. I wanted to give it a 8.2ish but the interminable end of the film left a bad final taste so I give it a 7.7

Started watching Marvel's "Echo," and during the first ep I was just thinking, man am I ever thankful for the influence the John Wick series has had on action in the industry. Longer takes that emphasize (and encourage) more well-choreographed fight scenes? Yes please. The first John Wick movie will turn 10 years old this year.

The Jackie Chan School Of Badassery In The Movies
Shaky-cam and 15-second fight scenes with 62 edits are great for effect in doses. As the de facto genre-defining standard? Kindly f**k off.

Exactly. Chan films are such a pleasure to watch for that reason. In particular all the incredible prop-work.

Watched Please Don’t Destroy: The treasure of foggy mountain last night. It’s exclusively on peacock.
It’s dumb. Like really dumb. I don’t regret watching as I did laugh through a good bit of it, but I have no plans to watch again.

I watched Killers of the Flower Moon last night. Pretty good movie, and didn't feel like 3+ hours long. Scorsese's movie's are always one offs for me though. I admire his talent, but I've never really connected with one of his films in a way that makes me want to watch it repeatedly.

If a movie is over 2.5 hours, Netflix, Hulu, whatever should find a natural pause spots to break it down into smaller portions. It’s not necessarily about attention span for me, it’s about finding over 2.5 hours straight where I can just sit and watch.

Same here. My big hurdle tends to be that he favors telling stories about characters that I have no interest spending 2-3 hours of my life with.I watched Killers of the Flower Moon last night. Their stuff definitely works better in the small digital short doses on SNL, but I laughed enough that it was a fun watch. It reminded me of spoofs or slapstick comedies of the 80s and 90s that aren’t really made anymore. I appreciated it for that alone.Watched Please Don’t Destroy: The treasure of foggy mountain last night. It’s exclusively on peacock.

Bring back intermissions in film. I also think that there are very few movies that deserve to be over 2.5 hours. Could probably count them on one hand. Most of these end up being slogs and do not need that runtime. Scorsese has obviously earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants so nobody tells him no, but maybe kill some of those darlings, Martin. If a movie is over 2.5 hours, Netflix, Hulu, whatever should find a natural pause spots to break it down into smaller portions. That could be part of it. My favorite Scorsese movie is Shutter Island and it's the only of his films I've watched more than twice. And even that I mostly enjoy for the setting and performances. Weirdly, I remember really liking Bringing Out the Dead when I saw it in the theater upon release, but haven't watched it again.Same here. My favorite (non horror) movie of all time is No Country For Old Men, and I bet I've watched it 20+ times, including a couple weeks ago.

Watched Hudson hawk and The Last Starfighter this weekend. Both terrific movies. Youngest has been watching videos about people tunneling so the great escape is up next.

The director of the flick directed every episode of Chernobyl and a few Breaking Bad episodes, so I guess this falls under the "legitimate Sandler" umbrella.
Plenty of quality Sandman post-2005. Most of it just happens to not be of a comedic variety
Heck, Hustle was a Netflix and it was solid, if unspectacular. Got a SAG nomination out of it.
