He always comes across as annoyed to have to perform for us. Like he didn't make enough money before 2000 so I guess he'll do us a favor and go through the motions.

Eeeeeeh. You'd think we would've learned our lesson after Zoolander 2, Anchorman 2, Coming 2 America, Dumb and Dumber To, Super Troopers 2, etc.Fun, but probably not good.

They shared this on the morning show on my local news today, and the reporter said that she (the on-screen talent) was the only person in the station's Entertainment Department who was alive when BHC1 was released.

We were talking about BHC2 a few months ago and we couldn't really remember the plot of the movie at all. Just scenes. Bogomil is killed; Brigitte Nielsen, a strip club, and Hef+Playboy Mansion are all in the movie, improbably in more or less unconnected ways; Axel and Billy sing the theme to The Dating Game; and it's Tony Scott, so stuff looks vaguely orange.Eeeeeeh. Finally got around to this. Definitely a blast. Ended up breaking it up into 3 viewings, though that was entirely due to my own schedule. Could easily see watching it in one viewing if time allowed (there's even a built-in intermission).Watched RRR again, what a movie! Still the best thing I've seen this year.
So many times where an action scene started and I thought "oh man I hope X happens" and then it does, and it's great.

"The Holdovers" was pretty good. It's a pretty by-the-numbers plot, though I guess Alexander Payne wanted something more straightforward after whatever Downsizing was. It's fairly restrained, which is nice, as it mostly avoids those big flowery/emotional moments to your typical coming-of-age flicks possess.
I'd say it's greatest accomplishment is it isn't just a movie that takes place in the 70s, it feels like it was made in the 70s (save for a couple music choices).

Re RRR
I think about once a month we watch "Naatu Naatu". Absolutely tremendous, a little capsule of awesome that requires no context.

My wife and I watched Mr. Monk’s Last Case tonight. It was good, but I think they could have done a better job with the initial crime. I figured out how it was done almost immediately based on one or two glaringly obvious clues.

saw the original Black Christmas for the first time. Only one eye-roll scene which is pretty good for a horror movie
I’d rank it as one of my favorite horror films. It was very well done

Napoleon. Ugh…
how to take a very interesting and complex figure in history and reduce his story down to a pretty by the numbers romance. I don’t understand how you can gloss over what drove him in ambition and how he rose to power like that. Like it seems like he and the French people just kind of shrugged their soldiers and agreed he was emperor for no particular reason. You don’t get a taste of what made him such a great military strategist until the middle of the film and by then youve already realized that the film is more interested in his love life than anything else
Phoenix was a bad choice. No charisma and I didn’t believe was Napoleon for a second. Also, I understand why they had the actors speak English but it’s kind of annoying how they spoke pretty much entirely British or American English. With ye British as a primary antagonist, they definitely should’ve tried to get more French or more French accents in there
The film looks beautiful at least. Should probably win the Oscar for costume design

also, while watching it all I could think of was how good Patton, the film, is. That’s kind of the vibe that I think you’d need for the story of Napoleon to be good
but I can’t really see a film like Patton being made in 2023. It’s too male dominated and would probably get panned for not being diverse, whether fair or foul. And I think that’s what’s hampering Napoleon. Not that female characters are bad, but women aren’t particularly relevant to what makes Napoleon such a massive figure in history so you can’t really make a Napoleon film without taking that risk

some reviewers interpreted it as a subversion of Napoleon as a figure; like trying to mock him a little bit but I honestly couldn’t tell if that’s what they were after because of how unfocused it is. It’s really hard to tell if some of the “laugh out loud” moments aren’t intentional or not but it really felt like they weren’t
It’s just frustrating because he is a very nuanced person in history and the film didn’t really do anything well other than the visuals

I haven't seen Patton in probably 30+ years, does it still hold up? From what I remember of it, I don't really have fond memories.

French audiences apparently hate it, which I took as a sign it was actually probably okay. *shrug*
