No, it's his demeanor and cocksure attitude. He's probably spent his life rubbing people the wrong way.

Although the bigger problem might be his coaching skills. ;)

I agree to an extent that his demeanor can push people the wrong way, but a lot of this has to do with the complex Pitt has with anything PSU. It's no different than what WVU has with Pitt.

Meh. I think it's bigger than that. He seems like a poor man's Harbaugh brother.

I'm still in on Franklin. His coaching has been lackluster so far, but his recruiting has been outstanding. Being a good college football coach is some function of coaching ability and recruiting ability. Franklin has been A+ in one of those categories, I'm willing to give him time to grow in the other. If we get enough Saquon Barkley-esque talent in here the coaching will start to look a hell of a lot better. It's disappointing wasting a couple years of an allegedly NFL level quarterback but the ceiling with the current roster was never going to be more than a 2nd or 3rd place finish our division. Alabama could have loaned us Nick Saban for the season and that still wouldn't have changed. So I'm fine with letting Franklin sort out his coaching with an average team, while at the same time building up an arsenal of young talent.

I can see if you're not a fan of the team how he would come across as a d-bag, for sure.

And as far as a "complex" being an issue, I think most Pitt fans recognized BOB as a standup guy and a good coach.

Franklin is still winning the recruiting battle last I checked. He may not be getting every highly rated PA guy, but he has gotten a very high percentage of them. His "dominate the state" statement was regarding recruiting and wasn't just directed at Pitt, but at all teams that recruit PA players.
Franklin is an ace recruiter. Plainly one of the best in college ball.

Expecting Narduzzi to come in this cycle and match Franklin isn't realistic, and I don't think Pitt fans expect that. Narduzzi had no track record to sell as a HC, and was coming to a program mired in mediocrity with a prior staff whose primary weakness was recruiting.

Let's see what the 2017 recruit list looks like for PA. Because I think of the top 15 on Rivals, Narduzzi already has two of them and Franklin none.

The dominate the state thing was definitely aimed at Pitt along with comments that ups is the in-state school alone. Their coaches even referenced it when they has the blowup on Twitter this past February.

You can call it whatever you want, but personally, I want to play ups and UWV every year, no qualifications. And the "complex" works both ways; see the entire "unrivaled" branding effort. "WE ARE...proud that our rival is Rutgers!" (That's no offense to mikey just a reference to ups' new "rival" per the B10).

Can you imagine Alabama not playing Auburn? USC not playing ND? What kind of idiot (Sandy Barbour) builds a branding campaign around proudly not playing your rival (or having one) because you're somehow "above" needing to? Pitt not playing UWV for another 6 years sucks. Pitt not having ups scheduled beyond 2020 at te moment sucks.

It makes me sad (and makes me feel old) that the only people who are obsessed with ups-Pitt playing are 35 and older, because they're the only ones who rmemeber how awesome and important it was.

BOB didn't bother me at all, and Hackenberg's freshman is the only proof he needs that he can coach em up. Whatever is going on in Happy Valley with Hack I don't know, but BOB had him looking like a world beater at age 19.

BOB also seemed likely to be transient so it was hard to get as annoyed by him. Franklin I feel like I can get my hate on for a while.

Hackenberg had a much, much, much better offensive line that year and a starting NFL WR in Allen Robinson on his team. Most of his success came from throwing the ball in the general vicinity of Robinson and him coming down with a ridiculous catch. They got blown out by OSU even worse that season. This year he has an offensive line worse than last year and no WR even close to Robinson's talent. The saving grace has been Barkley but he is a true freshmen and wasn't played against Temple and was coming off an injury for the OSU game.

Obv you guys would know better here, but that all makes sense. I think I saw 2 or 3 times that year and being mad that he was good (reasonable behavior by me)

Franklin is a dbag and you don't have to be a Pitt fan to see that. I realized it when the coaches wives article came out when he was at vandy

Temple U goes to 7-0, in advance of their hosting Notre Dame Halloween Night. I am no fan of Philly teams, but I would root for TU to win the whole damned show if they beat ND

They should set up inside the urine tinged innards of suburban station. Get an authentic feel of center city.

Evidently a car in a parade suddenly accelerated and went straight into the crowd.
