He's now tied for 95th.
I stand corrected.

I'm seeing 104th...
(there's like 20 players tied with him)

They should start a "Sidney Crosby is overrated and should be traded for a bag of pictures of pucks" club.

I don't think I much credit for Malkin's goal last night. That was just awesome. He responded to Ward's high stick like Mario would do, although I'm not sure if Mario scored wraparounds a lot

I wasn't impressed with Malkin's goal. I scored roughly 8,000 goals like that in NHL 94. It's really not that hard.

From the Adjusted Plus/Minus thread...this shift is a keeper, especially against a team that bludgeoned us pretty good just about 10 days back...

I'm still surprised the Caps let Fehr go.
Meow's morning meeting (Snake filling in)
My love for fehr is something we all should share
You can't compare the quintessential stare his eyes provide while grinding down opposing players
It's like orpik, except with a deadly stick, he swipes the puck out quick, and scores in the knick
Of time, all the time, every time he on the kill I'm running out of rhymes!
Nah I'm just joking, kinda like the poke check king, annoying other dudes cause his stick is not prude
I'm not trying to be sexual, only confessional about #16 playing exceptional

The keep by Fehr at 15:36 was a thing of beauty

Surprised and glad. He was the one guy that I would have loved to have on the Pens all the years he killed us.I'm still surprised the Caps let Fehr go.

That Fehr-Cullen-Plotnikov line was lights out all game. Nice to see a competent fourth line.
Letang looks better with Scuderi. Cole looks better on the third pairing with Wellbutrin/Glenfiddich.

Plotty has been inconsistent but Fehr and Cullen are legit players. I feel bad for Fehr that he's been relegated to the fourth line because it seems like he'd be a solid third line player too
the forward depth is great. Now, about our defensive depth...

Plotnikov has been extremely consistent the last 2 weeks, though. He's basically the reason that line is mowing people down. Cullen and Fehr have been great, but once Plotnikov got it rolling, that line has been a gem.

Plot has really simplified his game...he knows he is not talented to enough to expose the puck unless shooting in this league...he's adapting, he wants to play in this league, he doesn't want to watch again...good for him to adapt...and good for us that we have the best forward depth we have consistently had in 20 years perhaps...

This was a fun game to watch. Made me stay up waaay too late.
Was looking at stats this morning. The one that really jumped out at me was shooting percentage. The Pens... well they not too good, especially at 5 on 5. Close to the bottom of the league in most situation types.
Just wanted to ask the more knowledgeable posters about a stat like this.
Is this just bad luck? Is it the system they play, where they are not putting themselves in better shooting positions and taking lower quality shots? Is it not trying as hard as they could (i.e. going to the tough areas where goals are scored)?
It just seemed that out of all the stats the Pens look like they don't shoot well right now. IDK. Just an observation.

Poor shot selection in a good amount of cases, IMO. But, at the same time, I'm all for taking any and all shots, because you never know when a juicy rebound will fall into your lap. Waiting for the perfect shot has never worked for us.

Great question. Lots to consider. Skill level of players, reference point of the attack zone offense, handedness cohesion between centers and wings, amount of d-men that join the rush and how often they are the shooter, etc.
Not all shots are created equal, important to understand the quality of shots and chances and how they are generated.
For me personally, with my coaching hat on, I have never measured or calculated shooting percentage for the purposes of determining our offensive prowess personally.

Was always helpful when the defenseman made like Orpik and pushed the goalie out of the way to clear the path for the easy tap in. That's why when I played this game with my buddies in the dorm (we played a half season, got it wiped out somehow, then restarted and played an entire season...8 of us), I learned to take manual control of the goalie to avoid that problem. It was groundbreaking stuff.
