That Martin/Scuderi story at the beginning of the letter is tops.

Hockey takeaways:

Kunitz - was he hurt last year more than we think, causing the obvious slow down.

Talbot - When Martin says "He's good at what he does", I'm assuming we are talking about chirping. Guys like Talbot in the dressing room leads me to the Orpik bit.

Seems like an odd mix to have guys like Orpik trying to keep guys in line when they eat lunch, and guys like Fleury and Talbot who seem to joke around all the time. Seems like a really bad recipe for things should stuff not go well on the ice.

That dynamic exists on every team at every level. I've never seen one at the NHL level that was all just clones, and in my exploits as a coach, I've never had a situation where there wasn't that same dynamic. There's the guy that works hard, works out, watches his food in take, gives everyone the business for drinking heavy on the road or whatever. There's the guys that keep everyone loose at laughing. There's the **** talker. There's the "I'll fight him" guy. There's the guy that knows everyone's equipment, and what NHLer uses that same stuff. There's the learner "hey coach, was that right or...ya know, what should I have done there...?" on every other shift. There's the out-of-placer, the guy that looks just ridiculous and looks like he'd be bad at all sports and really all things, but is somehow really good and often the most reliable player - think like Brent Burns. This is usually the most aloof player on the team. etc. etc.

These characters and others exist on most every team...from youth on up to the NHL...

Rather cool to take the time to do that for a fanbase that you are leaving.
