Bylsma officially hired by Sabres. Give up a 3rd round pick next year as compensation.

As much as I hated DB by the end of last year, and felt that we wasted a good 2 or 3 years with him at the helm, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for him and everyone else who was part of the 2009 Cup-winning team. All the best to you, Danny boy!

Next lockout will be over forcing a salary cap on coaching contracts. :P

Glad to see Bylsma get another job; I hope he learned a lot during his time off. Buffalo's got a great core of prospects.

Jack Eichel will enjoy watching games from the press box until he has sufficient veteranosity to placate Bylsma.

Bylsma has shown he can take a Ferrari, win a race with it, then proceed to drive it off a cliff repeated. Let's see how he can build a team from the ground up.

I was just coming here to say that. I can't think of a coach more ill-suited for a team looking to develop young talent. Big winner in this deal is Craig Adams, who inexplicably now has two suitors for his services next season.

On the surface, I agree. But ya never know, this was his first NHL head coaching spot. He hasn't been in the game long in that regard...perhaps he learned a lot from this experience and worked to fill in his weaknesses. Like players, coaches can improve as well over time and adapt to their surroundings. Now, adaptation was not one of Bylsma's strong suits here necessarily, but who knows what the future holds for him with new assistants and a new setup...

I don't think you could really take anything from Bylsma's tenure as the Pens' HC and apply it to Buffalo. Literally two completely different situations.

Buffalo is no where close to being under the "win now" pressure that Bylsma would have been in while he was here. The focus will be completely different in Buffalo. He is quite literally starting from scratch, because they literally have nothing there. I'd look at the 2010-2011 season to get a feel of what Bylsma could theoretically accomplish there. Bylsma got a lot out of the AHL players when people were out with injury.

I could see them becoming a pretty decent team in 2-3 years if Eichel turns out how everyone has been expecting.

I think it's a great deal for both Bylsma and Buffalo, as it's unrealistic to see Buffalo becoming a contender in less than five years. While there was certainly pressure for DB to win now here in Pittsburgh, in Buffalo he'll have time to develop young talent, something that I think he could actually be good at. He did a great job with the youngsters at WBS before he took over the Pittsburgh job, and he also did a great job working - and winning - with young talent on the Pens during different stretches when "the core" was injured. And with a five-year contract in his pocket and a Stanley Cup ring on his finger, the young guys in Buffalo really will have no choice but to give him respect.

I think they getting decent results from crap when everyone was hurt can apply to Buffalo because for the most part they will still be crap at least for a couple years still.

He's a good fit right now for that team.
