Raanta, Ville Koivunen, Vasily Ponomaryov, and a 2nd

Two former second round picks under 23? All look to be solid point producers in their current leagues (2 of which playing pro already). That's about all I can glean from this trade. They said they wanted quality over quantity but it seems like the sheer number of players involved, I'm not sure that was the case.

Also if you swap Ty Smith with John Marino that makes it a bit more lopsided but hindsight is 20/20

They certainly don't seem like bums. Koivunen could possibly be here next year and Ponomarev this.

I found one with Koivunen at 2. So whatever, hoping for the best. We obviously weren't getting someone's top 3 prospects and a first for a rental

Hmmm. Obviously will wait for mikey to tell me how to feel, but:

- Ty Smith. **** you Hextall.
- Cruz doesn't have the production of Blake, but he is Wisky's leading scorer the past two years. That's not nothing.
- I don't see production at any level that justifies Ponomarev being a second round pick.
- No idea what caused Koivunen to go back to Finland, but he's Karpat's leading scorer as a 20 year old and is the highest scoring NHL prospect in the league. Elite Prospects scouting report says "His game is one of pure, unrelenting skill, and an attacking mindset to match. Koivunen wants the puck on his stick, wants to be a game-breaker, wants to make something happen every shift. Koivunen keeps his top hand pushed out, handles the puck at his hip, and doesn’t mind engaging numbers". mikey please tell me I'm allowed to be excited about this one.

You really can't believe a team wouldn't give up a good, effective young top-six roster player under team control for a rental winger?

Obviously, a lot of Pens are gonna overvalue Jake, but you also need to be realistic here.

The best thing about it though is that they're all still young and growth isn't linear.

I don't think many expected Jake Guentzel, a 3rd round pick, to play at a 40 goal pace and be one of the top playoff goal scorers during his career.
