Puusy at least looked good on the Ellers goal and was able to pot one of his own. In terms of players who might be able to contribute on the cheap.

Remains to be seen if he goes on another 10 game disappearance after scoring like he did his first call-up

The power play is dysfunctional. Bad is not the word to describe it at this point. They go through stretches where it gives up more goals than it scores, and half the time it gives up better chances and more shots than it gets. Literally everything is wrong with it; there's nothing it does well as a unit. They would be better off pulling a George Costanza and doing the exact opposite of everything.

They are also dysfunctional during 3 on 3 overtimes. Not sure how or even if they practice these situations, or perhaps the stars just refuse to be coached and want to play their way regardless, I'm not sure - but there is a massive disconnect somewhere.

Pelech?? That guy couldn't score on a dime store hooker with a hand full of $100's. The only way that imbecile scores an overtime goal is if you give him a gap like the one they gave him. Last night was so frustrating to me, because they got goals from guys who never score, and the star players yakked it up.

I actually think they backed off of Pelech because it was going to be a long unscreened wrist shot from a guy who, as Rx noted, has to pay for sex...Letang had been on since the drop, so I think the idea was: let this idiot just shoot it on net, then we'll change, and we'll have possession...instead of maybe blocking it or forcing him to turn back and pass it to someone relevant. Of course, the way this season has gone, he fires it post and in. It's a good shot by him, but I'd love to get a save there (obviously)...that's usually a 98+% save situation given the shot criteria.

It's just how it goes this season. Of course f'n Pelech will score in OT. First goal of the year because thats how the Pens roll. Yeah Ned should have had that one (played great otherwise), but holy ****...just par for the course for this **** show of a season. Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong.

The power play... I mean there isn't even anything to talk about. Everyone knows its a dumpster fire that gives the other team momentum (if not a goal). Should just petition to decline them at this point.

Important note. The Islanders fkn stink too. Neither one of those teams are going to the playoffs

I don't think they are tanking...they just stink. It's the Sidney Crosby show and a bunch of losers basically.

I might go dig out my x-generation shirt to make myself feel better.

I decided to take a glance at their cap situation. They're still carrying Jack Johnson's dead cap hit. I'm cool blaming him for this.

Cap speaking. It goes up 4.2 mil next year, Carter goes for 3.2. that's 7.4 to spend before a Jake decision. 13.4 if he goes... For the first time in a while, our GM has something that resembles flexibility, curious to see how this goes.

I'd be interested in what a Jake trade looks like and then spending some FA dollars (hopefully not on a Ryan Graves part 2)

We're definitely not tanking. It's just not a good roster.

Look at the mode of acquisition...

Four regular forwards are our picks...
Crosby (1st, '05)
Malkin (1st, '04)
Rust (3rd, '10)
Guentzel (3rd, '13)
(O'Connor as a UDFA)

One regular d-man...
Letang (3rd, '05)

And Jarry (2nd, '13)

##

0 players drafted in the last 10 years are in our lineup. ****** Seattle has more than that and they've only existed since lunch time yesterday...

Who'd Tampa win with...Kuch, Point, Killer, Palat, Tyler Johnson, Gourde, Hedman, Vasy, forget even that loser Stamkos...

Our team in '09: 87, 71, 11, 58, 48, Talbot, Goose, Orpik, Scuderi, Fleury...

You really want about half of your team to be your picks if you can get there...we have three franchise caliber pieces from 20 years ago that were loyal...but otherwise, we have zip. So, it's all someone else's projects, someone else's development, and seeing if it's a fit here...it's tough.

Well hopefully we suck enough to get in the top 10, cause the 1st rounder we traded for EK is top 10 protected, if we finish middle of the pack we don't even get to pick anyone that will never amount to anything in 5 years.

This looks like potentially a disastrous draft class. The WHL and Russia have players...but Russia has that hex over them. So there's limited appeal there.

But the US side and NTDP is a hunk of ****. Eiserman is a big question mark because he plays like current Ovechkin. So, how high can you go with that and be comfortable? You have to be concerned that he's Wahlstrom or Yakupov. Levshunov looks like Evan Bouchard - so he's a dunce with low compete. The under card of the Program don't look like first rounders at all. I've been told by multiple scouts that this is the worst OHL crop in 20 years...there doesn't appear to any 1st round players in the QMJHL...Sweden is really weak this year. The top Finns consist of a guy that was passed over last year and a player that was thought to be a top 5 pick 12 months ago, but now is looking like a 2nd or 3rd rounder...

If you have a "don't take Russians" stance (which is dumb af)...this draft is a big fat zero in my eyes.

I forgot Yakupov was a thing. Interestingly, the Pens selected Pouliot 8th overall which was really bad but eventually got Määttä and Murray in that same draft so it wasn’t all bad

Absolutely not. Better off burying him in the American league. Maybe do it after next year

You can't bury guys anymore really...you get back like a buck and a dime or something...buck and a quarter tops...

I don't think we can buy that out either though...

Do we just include him with Jake and buy ourselves a bunch of cap room?

Who can fit that and would want to? You have a cap dump - that usually goes to bad teams. Then you have one of the premier rentals - that usually goes to good teams.

I think it washes the value of Guentzel down to like a 3rd and a young roster player of modest regard...
