maybe it’s because I’m cranky but the lack of hustle is really starting to piss me off. The team is underperforming and seemingly willing to just coast

It has been this way for two years. There will be certain games or opponents that bring out the “fight” in the Pens but they’d rather not play with emotion or fire or have to dictate play. If they could win every game with a pond hockey effort they’d be more than happy to do that.

That’s how the team is built though for the most part. This team dips their toes into the water each game to see what kind of game it’s going to be. Very rarely will they just come out buzzing and overwhelm the other team. The problem with the pond hockey strategy though is a lot of teams have more speed, skill, and youthful energy than we do so it’s not usually going to work out for us.
