They've got to make a change. They have what, like 20 regulation wins in their last 75 games?

It's time.
Yes. And how many years since we won a playoff series?

I’m at a point now where I don’t expect to win as the puck is dropped to start each game. I used to assume each game was a W and would be surprised when we lost. Now it’s the opposite. We are the bad team. We are the underdog. We’re like Chicago a few years ago…still have some big names on the roster but we aren’t good.

Ah, yes, trade away half the top 6 wingers on this team.

Such a great idea.

Almost everyone of the team has stunk but for me, Graves has been a massive disappointment….and I wasnt really expecting a whole lot.

We need a Neal for Hornqvist trade but I don’t think we have a Neal to trade away.

Earned 7 of the last 10 points and are in a jumble across an 8 point spread with over half the league

Yeah I'm just angry at this point. It's like watching the Steelers. We are the city of losers! :scared:

I think the most damning thing for Sullivan is how so many new signings come to Pittsburgh and end up being worse players than when they arrived. This year, every new signing has been worse outside of Ned and Eller.

Last year it was Kapanen, Petry, Bluegar (I know not a new signing but it fits) and McGinn.

This is a trend and it’s not a good one

Blueger was a penguins draft pick

Petry was 35

Kapanen was a known enigma for his entire career

McGinn is a ham & egger

I mean I get it. But you can’t just ignore that in recent years under Sullivan, players are underperforming. McGinn was always a ham and egged, he was just a worse ham and egged here.

Curious to know what our record is in 3 vs 3 OT over the past few years. It FEELS not great.

For a team that considers themselves a “skill team” we seem to be outmatched in any setting that really should favor us (PP, 2 man advantage, 3 vs 3, 4 vs 4, shootouts).
This year -- 1-2, 0-1 in shootouts
Last year -- 8-10, 1-1 in shootouts
2021-22 -- 6-4, 3-7 in shootouts
2020-21 -- 5-2, 3-1 in shootouts

Rakell had his best season in years last year. One of the best of his career.
Same with Jason Zucker in the one healthy season he had here.
Danton Heinen career high in goals in 2022, barely hanging on in the league two years later.
Petry was fine here...he's being health bombed on a worse Detroit team now...
Blugers - who doesn't find this criteria - was a 15 minute player a game here...he's no longer an NHL regular after leaving here.

I get the frustration, but Sully has been handed a lot of **** and is molding something out of it at times...

There's been a lot of crappy drafts for a number of years, and I realize many of their top picks had been traded away, but there are no prospects anywhere in the organization. So when injuries occur and someone needs recalled, we get guys like Taylor Fedun and Jansen Harkins. So I agree, every season Sully is asked to polish turds, and it's one thing to ask a coach to do that with an occasional ham and egger, but it's like a third of this team's roster...

On one hand, the team has done quite well 5 on 5. The PK has been good recently and the goaltending stellar... but it's not a good roster overall so it's hard to pin that on the head coach. But Reirden needs to go, and they need to add a forward who can shoot the puck. I still believe the power play can be fixed with a new voice and one trade, provided they implement a strategy along the lines of what mikey had suggested. I thought we saw shades of that a few nights ago and the pp might have been moving in the right direction, but then tonight we got whatever the f**k that was...

I don't have a clue who is available or what assets they even have to acquire such a player, but Dubas got Karlsson for a bag of pucks and and old jock strap, so who knows...

Is it weird that I don't even think the bottom six is bad? The powerplay has cost them at least 3-5 game so far.

They continually talk about changing the PP and doing better - but then in the late second or third last night, they passed like 8 times, and when Geno finally shot it he missed the net completely turning the puck over.

So at this point, is it coaching - or is it players? It's probably both - but between that sequence and Letang getting cute in the first trying to knock the puck down with his stick, missing it, and giving up a short-handed breakaway - they just need wholesale changes.

I almost never point to a single issue being the reason a team is underperforming, buuuuuut I’m getting close to blaming the PP for all our troubles.

I wouldn't say it's the source of all our troubles, but I can certainly say we'd all feel a lot better about this team and their place in the standings if the PP was even average

I think it is.

Even the bottom 6 has been better this season. I mean, you've got one reasonably good line with Eller, DOC, and Acciari. You can squeak by with Carter, Hino, and Z, I suppose. Ludvig and Shea have been alright. I'm a little disappointed Pysyk didn't catch a break here, because he's a good hockey player.

Goaltending, excellent. Ned didn't just steal a point last night - it was grand larceny. Both goalies have given us a season's worth of highlights already.

But we are almost 30% into the season and the pp has given up almost as many as it's scored. It's not the age of the players either, because they are all scoring 5 v 5, and you figure that's where their old age would hurt them the most.

The pp needs retooled, and if that means making a trade or two, so be it. I'm not quite ready to fire Sully just because of a rotten power play, but if this continues, it will eventually fall on his shoulders.
