It’s great as long as Jarry stays healthy and can be consistent.
It’s also as much defense in front of him and the Pens we’re not good.

People show their stupidity time and again. He's the 12th highest AAV among goaltenders. Right about where he belongs. Why don’t people like that we have a top 10 goalie getting paid top 15 money? It’s truly stupid on all fronts. Dubas made the appropriate move by getting an actual NHL backup. Did we want to sign a 35 year old goalie 4 years at 12 million?
The only palpable option was to have a 1a-1b combo that probably would cost well over 7 per combined. It’s like people forget Jarry is reall f’ing good
There also is no reasonable alternative. These dummies wanted him still, just for less and shorter. But... like... the player also has to sign it lol

...but it's also one of those contracts that's going to look like **** if his next five years look like the last three years (oft injured)
him getting five years is a bit incredible to me
we'll see, though

Yep no problems with the contract at all...and the alphabet soup goalie we signed keeps DeSmith from being the backup so that's good too.

On the TSN free agent show, Craig Button was talking about different goalies in a different situation than ours I believe and mentioned about the health of the goalie some other team chose and Martin Biron and someone else were like "what goalies, particularly of the ones available, are consistently healthy...? Name them!" and Button just froze...
And rightfully so...it's just not a position that emanates healthy vibes, bros...

he couldn't even name Vasilevskiy? he hasn't played less than 50 games since 15/16 (except the COVID season when he played 42 of 56.....
but yeah, goalies are fragile these days.

Well, yeah...but also that's statistically the most likely thing because most goalies have injury issues.
The guy with the most games played over the last five years is Connor Hellebuyck...he's on the trade market and everyone thinks the bottom is going to fall out on him because he's not exactly a fitness monster...
Vasilevskiy was drafted and developed by Tampa and signed long term. But how many guys like him even exist...ignoring the "available" ones...who are these workhorse goalies that don't miss time?

I am legally required to disclose that I looked up which goalies have played the most games in the last three seasons and Jarry had the…6th most
very surprising

I think Jarry's injuries stand out because 1) they always seemed to come at the worst time and 2) we didn't have a good enough backup. DeSwiss would play just good enough to give us hope and then yank it away. you shouldn't have to score 6 goals to win an NHL game.

1 though. Is there a good time to get injured?

there are better times. getting injured at the end of 2022 reg season was the worst. Pens should've beaten the Rangers that year.....I’ll agree with 2

Pointing out the backup situation really shows how valuable Jarry is. And he's only at like 3 mil 3.5 mil more per year than DeSmith. Other situations are 6, 7, 8 mil.
Anyhow, there was no one definitively more reliable than was readily available to us...

Jarry's only problem is the back up. He's otherwise been an avg - above average goalie with a ceiling that could make a deep run.
