For those guys who have been asking for us to just trap it up, not have D come down the wall, play the 1-2-2, not fly the zone, and just play a super conservative defensive game...you've gotten a heavy dose of that the last two games...Minnesota game was played on sand, this one is much of the same...pop gun offensive generation from Sid is the difference here, everything else has been syrup'd up...

One step at a time...we can talk about what it means in a playoffs series if that should occur...right now, you have to just find a way to win a shift at a time, or, more precisely, not lose a shift at a time because that's how they're playing...up 7-2 the last five periods...

The difference I've noticed is that when the D pinches down the wall the far side forward is recognizing it and getting back

For me, that's always been built in. Whether it's the SSW or WSW or the C, I think that's been there. But that positioning and that route matters. So do the rules for the d-men...some teams have it as a "one look pinch" some teams allow those d-men to wander and hang out...we were the latter for a while, like with Matheson, he had the green light to loiter near the opposing goalie...seems like the "pinch?" slider has been dialed back considerably, and the "how many looks/sequences?" slider has been effectively slashed to zero-ish...

It's really hard to generate offense playing up hill, it's really hard to generate offense without a fourth guy...

Feels like we have about 3 scoring chances and 11 shots in this game with 18 and a half left...

Minnesota, there were some outside shots in the 1st, but, what, six scoring chances in that game, we had a dozen shots over the last 40 minutes probably...

That's the price of doing business unless you're a team that has players all through the lineup like Boston...

Great example of the converse of what I'm talking about, got away from the game plan...Rutta tried an o-zone retrieval, second guy in the zone is Friedman, both on the same wall...the three forwards have to manage all of the back ice AND all of the wide ice...it's too much for Rust, and he commits a panic foul...
