The NHL would be far more interesting if they had a retention cap. It'd probably wreck GM spending and force teams to pay for their mistakes.

To be fair, though, no-one could've foreseen the sheer scale of collective underachievement, confounded by injuries, that sank the bottom six. That said, you cannot sign several players you don't really know what to expect from (Carter, KK, CDS, Heinen ...) and not have a Plan B when things go south. And you better not **** up further by being up against the cap due to magical thinking and thus unable to make callups. I wouldn't have mind to get another look at Puustinen at some point in the season. Moron.

Mcginn... I mean I really like him as a player and I still think he's an NHL third liner, but he just lacked something. He was decent to pretty good at his craft, but he's not hard enough to play against. Needs more grit, and needs to get better at blocking shots.

Our PK forwards sucked at blocking shots this year. Bonino will remind us what it's supposed to look like
