The thing I hate is you have Hextall AND Burke. Two gargoyles that really shouldn’t be trusted they much in todays game.

Sullivan: Our roster is our roster.
Yes, that was an interesting quote
I heard it as a shot at Hextall.

Burke, were he in charge, would've protected Tanev, I'm sure of it.

Firing a GM at this juncture is uncommon and not the quick fix pens fans are looking for. I'd force him to sell then let him go the day after the season ends

You keep saying "you can't fire the GM" but if you can't trust him to get you out of the hole (that he made!), what's the point of keeping him around at this juncture?
The last time a GM got fired in February/ this late in the season was when jarmo kekelainen took over in Columbus in 2013 (feb 12). GM is not the same as coach, you can't just plug players into a new system. There's a lot more that goes into it... it's not like urgently fire hextall or the franchise is ruined. There's not a whole lot hanging on this deadline... the team already stinks so basically they'll either fold it up and get some middling assets for the little trade bait they have, or they'll tap into the minimal pool of existing assets they have to make a low impact move.

Best case scenario if they fired hextall tonight would be Burke operates as interim GM to do exactly what hextall was going to do anyway and conducts a search after the season. How does that help?

Meanwhile on lgp, a stinging indictment of…. Mike Sullivan. Complete with “see how many apologists he’ll have” disclaimer. Because he’s supposed to make a Connor McDavid out of wood and animate him on to the 3rd line.

Same. He isn't the GM

I know this isn't an Omar Kahn/Andy Weidl situation exactly, but there's a reason why they're both here and not just one. It's almost like somebody wanted to hire Hextall, but another person in the room said no way unless you bring in somebody else to keep him accountable, just in case. Well, this is the just in case.

I would love to see FSG get rid of Burkxtall but, at least in RH's case, FSG won't fire him until after they see his plan in writing.

Rossi article - but Sullivan is pushing for Hextall to go after Chychrun but Hextall won't budge on giving up 25,26 First Rounders. I'm actually inclined to agree with Hextall here.

I don’t think we would want to give up that much for Chychrun but Hextalls obsession with holding onto these picks is insane. You brought back the stars: build a **** team around them! Saving the 23rd pick in the draft isn’t going to enable you to rebuild this team. The only way we rebuild is when Crosby is retired and we stink and get top 5 picks from actually stinking

Well, in 25/26 I would expect the Pens to be completely out of the playoffs and those picks could potentially be top 10/5.

I don’t see the Penguins being bad bad as long as Geno Sid and Letang are around. Again, this team is comfortably in the playoffs with a decent backup and a third line that’s not atrocious.

To me Hextall has two options, you either add a guy to try to push for the playoffs (I don’t like that idea) or you sell now to open up cap for the summer for a retool. Maybe use some of the picks you gain from selling at the deadline to get some teams to take on our dead wood

But sitting there saying “we just need to keep our 19th overall pick in the 2023 draft so we can draft a guy who is 4 years from seeing the NHL” makes zero sense at all. It’s just sitting on your hands and doing nothing
