They 100% are basing their powerplay on shot passes and redirects. But teams are basically completely taking away the one timer shooting lanes by sagging their killers and pretty much giving away the top of the zone, then winning the loose puck battles from blocked or missed shots.
The pens have to be willing to wire pucks at the net even if they miss/get blocked, but that will only work if they work harder to win loose pucks. If they do that, the PK structure is going to be broken down and they'll get more Grade A chances.
The issue is that they're simply not working hard enough for loose pucks and most shots toward the net are one-and-done

They then start gripping their sticks too tight and make stupid, low-percentage passes or other bad puck decisions that make getting zone clears even easier.
The crazy thing is they haven't really struggled at all with zone entries like in years past
