Yeah i thought a 2-year deal could have been used as leverage to avoid arby...

No chance arbitrator would have awarded him a raise

The only thing that makes me feel good is there's a chance he outplays it. However slim that is. It's in there. Like desmith though, no chance. He's just bad

This is my thing with draft picks...Kapanen has a chance, he has skill, there's imagination there, there's skating...I'd rather have him than Gudbranson or something, ya know? I'd rather Kap at $3.2 mil than Rodrigues at half that. There's a lot more upside with Kapanen and it's upside that's been realized in the past. So it's not just playing the Chris Gratton potential card at age 32 still...Kapanen has been a useful player, he had a bad year...I don't think I would have done two years at this rate...but if he has a terrific year, maybe they cash out like they did with Matheson...

I'm not sure he's capable of stepping up his game enough to warrant that contract.

Based on his performance last year, he is only worth about 2.5

That said, he's not that far away from becoming a reliable 20-25 goal scorer. He's done it before. I initially viewed him as a Stephane Richer type of player (fast with an incredible shot, could score 35+) and last season he was.... not that.

He is still relatively young, and this season will likely make or break him as far as a top 6 NHL'er. Hard to count on a guy like him, but we don't really have to because we have plenty of guys who can light the lamp. Guys like Kapanen are 100% useless though if they are not scoring goals.. so he will have to do that to justify the $$

Well you stopped reading, ya dingus. Continue from there.

But just to clarify I don't blindly hate E Rod like most of you guys do. Dude out played Kapanen this past year whether you like it or not and at least puts forth an effort ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't mind E Rod; thing is though, he cannot kill penalties, win draws, or cover in the zones effectively... which makes him useless as a bottom six except for the speed and occasional goal. Love his effort, and he works as a 12th or 13th forward. He'll have a job in this league until his offensive contributions dry up. So I give him credit for stretching the marginal talent he does have. But some ppl saw him as a legit top 6 last year, and I've got an air conditioner to sell those ppl on the coldest day of the year. He had that one stretch last year where he scored a bunch of goals... and it was odd because he wasn't even going to the correct places on the ice where you're supposed to go to get points.

Hes bad. Real bad. He has good speed and a good shot and somehow the stars aligned for 8 weeks and he couldn't miss.

If he stays in the league he'll have the odd explosion game because of those attributes. Example being the 1st period of game 3 against the rangers when he buried 3 points on pp2

That's not the question. You said "blindly" but he, especially early in the year, was producing...yet, at least meow and I, still hated him and his game. So, isn't it the opposite of "blindly"...? Uhhh...sightly?

Also, for blindly, I know I make a ton of observations about micro skills that he lacks that make his game not NHL sustainable...

Erod outplayed Kap like just under halfway through the year, then went ghost the rest of the season.

He's not terrible, he's not great - but there's a wide range of where he falls. I wouldn't rather have him over Kapanen, and I'd rather have neither, honestly.

Yeahhh. I think our numerous concrete examples of how he is garbage are well known. “Blindly” is about as far from the truth as possible.

He's doing something infuriating every time he's on the ice. Even during his hot streak his overall game was butt.

Hmm.. I like that we resigned Kapanen from an asset point of view, but I am not a fan of this contract. Two years at 3.2 and then he is a UFA... I think that could actually reduce his trade value.

We probably need to show case him to sell him to someone. Otherwise, he would just be a throw-in in a trade.

I think it will become a Rodriguez situation where we keep him if he plays well, but his value is close to zero if he fails. He has skills and first round pedigree, but the buyer only gets him for 1.5 season or something...

The contract tells me they still believe in his potential.
