Yea you can’t beat the price here. And it’s awesome to see Malkin not being with another team
Now let’s see if Hextall has anything else up his sleeve

1mm salary the last year is good stuff, too. If he sucks you can throw him on the 3rd line and try to afford a new 2c.

Glad he re-signed. Part of me was ready to move on from him since he seems to really be slowing down, but maybe that was more from the injured knee than age. Hopefully he can stay healthy and be productive. My biggest concern is that the roster is still pretty stale, although keeping Rakell does help and was unexpected. Hopefully Hextall can add more over the next couple days.

I was thinking about "stale" and the question you have to ask - is what do you want to do for the next few years, and what can you do.Glad he re-signed. You could blow it all up, don't resign anyone... but you don't have the young guys to fill in, and you probably are going to overpay for average guys to fill a roster out that might be about the same. I don't think you can build a contender through FA and this prospect bunch.
The option they took - resign your stars at less money to finish out their careers. A trade or two opens even more cap space.. now you can maybe take a shot. Sure you are probably depending on some other teams having injuries, or maybe the odd favorite getting bounced, but you figure you have fairly high production from this core for another year or two. You keep your draft picks and start building for the post retirement age. Maybe even the final year you move guys for more assets if they are willing.
What they've done is prepare for the soft landing... do they lose some draft spots? Maybe... but thats a crapshot anyway... and if the option is there to get these guys back at a lower cost for the next few years - maybe you catch lightning in a bottle for one more chance.

Crosby, Malkin, and Letang for close to 20 years. That's unheard of in modern pro sports.

Intrigued by you having Carter at 3RW. Don't think he can handle C anymore or are you looking for more ice time for Blueger?Ok, so we're officially at...

We still have the rights to Kapanen too.
Dumo-Letang
Math-Marino
Pett-Ruh
POJ-Friedman
Jarry
CDS
And about $4.2 mil worth of cap space still, which will become a little more when we dump one of those d-men...

Both to a degree. Coaching and roster management is all about maximizing the pieces you have...the more time Carter is at wing, the better off we are, and the more steam he'll have late in the year. If Blugers can't be a 3C in this league, let's find out now because that's a pretty well insulated line for him...

I feel like blueger proved that he can be a 3C last year...
He played in that spot all year up until his jaw injury

The answer is simple. Let's bring back Brandon Sutter.

Read somewhere that Malkin's contract, unlike Letang's, is subject to the 35+ rule. If he retires a year early the cap hit would remain with the Pens that year.
