Weird, this says two-year, and not two-way?

Wasn't he on a two-way deal? I guessing he wouldn't make that mistake again.

No, he wasn't on a two-way on his last deal (three years)...I just think I've seen enough to not think of him as a top 50 or 60 goalie in the world...my stance of him getting a two-way deal was very unrealistic...

But this number confirms (well, ya know, 95%, 99% whatever) that we're not going to pursue the goalie market at all...

I don't care for this player, I don't think this is a great contract...it's also our backup goalie making less than the average salary, so I won't lose any sleep over it...

Not a fan of 1.8 mil a year. Good for him for getting that much, but that overall number for a backup goalie on a team that may need all the money they have available for other things....not a fan.

This is one of those that probably could have been its own thread...it's the re-signing of a roster player. But too late now I guess, I don't think there's an appetite here to move posts...

I personally don't like the move, but whatever. He's not terrible, dude just needs to stop getting hurt at playoffs.

I guess it was the deal before that when Murray came along and DeSmith was sent down on his two-way deal. Time flies.

He did play well in the 2nd half but I would have liked to see them try and save half a million I cap space here

Was hoping we could get MAF back on the cheap. I don’t like DeSmith very much as the backup but I guess the price was main factor here? I wonder if perhaps Fleury would be seen as a “threat” to Jarry and somehow be not great for his confidence or development? Maybe Jarry would be looking over his shoulder too much.

Or we’re still signing Fleury and trading Jarry to seattle (Eklund)

Seems... inefficient roster management? Lacking in thought? to look back at what happened with our goaltending in the playoffs the last two years and think "Yup, should totally bring back this backup who hasn't been able to be/stay healthy when we needed him most".

$1.8MM for CDS? We’re all underpaid.

MAF isn't going to take a huge discount to play here. This isn't fairytale land. A discount would be double this.

He might be lovable, but he isn't going to roll over to be back here. Priority is Letang and Malkin and not making the entire city turn against your starting goaltender.

Yeah that was always the issue with bringing back MAF. Nobody would want to see Jarry in net, especially if he struggles at any point.

Am I the only one that didn't want MAF back? All people would do is piss and moan like they did with Murray/MAF, and it'd get way annoying. His time here is over, and he can sign for a day contract and retire here.

It's just complicating and issue far more annoying than not. Jarry played very well last year. There's no need to replace him really, he just needs a solid backup.

I’d only want fleury if we traded Jarry for a haul tbh. And I don’t see that happening

Fleury as a backup makes this team better and that's the only thing that should matter imo

water under the bridge at this point though

So I just looked at the list of UFA goalies and I feel better about this. Nobody out there even remotely interesting that wouldn't cost significantly more

I mean sure, in a 1:1 sense that's absolutely true. The optics of the rest of it just suck. Having the team/coaches have to answer for every single thing that Jarry does wrong, just like Murray before his glove hand was exposed.

Dude had back-to-back shutouts in the finals, and there were still bemoaning Murray over MAF. That's just a conversation I don't want to hear repeatedly.

Back up goalie is like 16th or 17th on a team’s list of needs. Whatever

I would have preferred to put a little bit more money into a 1b option, or committed less money for a clear cut backup goalie.
