GDT: Pens vs Rags, Game 4

I think the Rangers were maybe the top defensive team in the league after the deadline. Or somewhere up there. I've been seeing a lot more net front traffic than last year. We were painfully perimeter oriented last year from what I remember

Man, first dates over Penguins playoff games...big minus there. Like, first dates can happen 345 other days a year without question...I never get people...

Source of the post scratch ERod or Boyle
I feel dirty for even writing this, but I scratch Boyle first right now.

what’s different between this year and the last couple of years? puck luck?

I want to say “dey care” but why would they care this year and not against the Habs or Isles? this roster is effectively the same one as last year

we look like a genuine cup contender though

Styles are different. Habs and Isles play that muddy, defensive, trap-like snorefest and the Pens would get impatient to show off their skillz and every time they made a mistake, they paid for it. Add in some really putrid goaltending and it equaled first round exit. Rangers aren’t afraid to open it up and their defense isn’t exactly defensive. Pens can work set plays and cross-ice passes to their liking. How many Rust-Guentzel like goals did we see in the past 3 first rounds? Not many cuz the opponents always took them away.
Rangers defensemen simply aren't that hard to play against. Fox isn't a great defender without the puck, trouba has always left me wanting more, Miller is really good but still needs to take one more step toward making people earn space, Schneider is too young, nemeth might be the worst player in the league.

I'm thinking if this is the case, the answer is that 87/71/58 realize this is their last horrah as a 3-some and they are all turning it up just a notch.

We keep winning while talking about it, so ipso facto, let's keep it going-o.

I rewatched the game this morning because I had a meeting get cancelled. The Rangers detail game is laughably bad. Losing every big face off. Not tying sticks up. Breakouts are a mess. It’s the most unstructured team I’ve seen all year. Like a dog chasing their tail

They got bailed out by some really good goaltending in the reg. Pretty positive they were bottom 10 in their 5v5 analytics. Now that they aren't getting it, all the warts are showing.

Yeah, that's part of why I wanted the Rangers instead of the Panthers. The Rangers have a single point of failure, and he's currently failing. The rest of their game isn't all that impressive and they lack playoff know-how...

I didn't want to jinx things. But this series had big 2007 Pens/Sens vibes to me. Young team that got really good probably a year earlier than expected, but no playoff experience against the grizzled vets

Domingue has a .906 save percentage so far in this series. That number typically isn't good enough to win a playoff series.. but it's absolutely good enough to win a series if the other team's goaltender implodes.
