GDT #78: Pens vs Bruins

I feel like the Bruins had a single digit amount of A chances in that game. I don't know what the shot map looks like, but I reckon there's a lot from outside...after a couple of early rebounds, CDS settled in nicely, and the Pens didn't have to chase the game...Crosby had a really good defensive game today. I'll take it. Good, confident win against a good team...that's always good.

Needed: Number of times hat tricks have not been the first star of the game in the modern era. It can't be often.
Jake was the first star though
I know. That's my point, not many single game doable things trump a hat trick. Although imo what Desmith did was more impressive and important to the outcome of the game. Not to take away from Jake at all.

What about when two players score a hat trick in the same game? Like when E Rod and Rust had hat tricks against the Sharks in January. E Rod got the first star (seriously) while Rust was 2nd.

Grape Ape got first star when he and Sid had matching HT's in the playoffs years ago.

Andrew Copp had a natural hat trick tonight in a 6-3 win over the Isles and wasn't the first star...

That was the least saviest "52 save" performance I've ever seen. His mom must have been keeping the shots.

What I will say is that he looked really comfortable in the crease and wasn't all jolty and awkward. And he caught everything. And battled. Great game

Yup ^

Also, most shots without a goal in Bruins franchise history.

He has a tidy game (extremely tidy for him) and was able to keep second chances down. There were what? Two net mouth scrambles. Maybe three. Games like this happen where a team just chucks it on net with no real thought and the shot clock climbs and climbs.

Also, I don’t recall a Pen actively blocking a single shot.

There were also 3 instances off the top of my head where they threw it toward the front of the goal from the end wall, he reached out and caught it, and they registered a shot

You can’t even read shut up

Did someone shoot it at the net? Did the goalie stop it?

If yes, then shot

Maybe you dinguses can petition the NHL to not officially acknowledge the shutout.

This place makes fun of LGP but we have pages of folks trying to discount a backup goalie getting a shutout because the saves weren't as flashy as they want. Amazing.

lol it really is comical. he played well and got us a win vs a playoff opponent. I am hoping this gets him mentally ready for RD1 that allows the Pens to have stability in the crease. Idfc if they are fake shots or real shots. He stopped em all.

I don't think anyone is doing that...it's a commentary on the Bruins shot quality (believe it or not, we're not the only team that sometimes half-asses a game) and the Penguins team defense more than anything, and also CDS was largely in control, sharp, and not sliding out the zamboni door...

Remember when Jim spent like 5 pages arguing Fleury's one save against the Devils wasn't actually that great because (i think) he created the issue for himself and was way out of position, completely ignoring the fact the save was made?

I dont think anyone's discounting anything other than the shotkeeper... CDS played great, perfect in fact. And also *looked* good which is big for him.
