Pens trade Galchenyuk, 2020 1st, and Addison for Zucker

Postby Lelldorin » Tue Feb 11, 2020 4:11 am

Meh. I really wanted to keep Addison :( Losing both him AND a 1st round pick seem like overpayment, but hopefully I am wrong. I would do this trade 10 times out of 10 if I were the GM of Minnesota...

I think it's a fine deal for the Wild, but it's not like they robbed us blind. They get an NHLer who was worthless at least to us, a pick that will be in the late 20s, and a prospect who, while really promising, isn't a sure thing to ever be an impactful player at the NHL level, certainly not in the very near future. If you're a contender and you can get your man without giving up a meaningful part of your roster you do it.

The more comments I read on social media about this trade from dumbass fans, the better I feel about it.

I get your points, but I am not convinced that Zucker is good enough to yield this return. If he can contribute 25+25 each year, I am satisfied.

Do fans of all teams think you should be able to trade for whoever you want for nothing more than low picks and spare parts? Or is that just Penguins fans on Twitter??

Since the Hossa acquisition, who has been the best deadline pick up?
Dupuis? ;)

I'd say Schultz

Yes. I slept on it and the pick is meh, Mr Yuk is worse than meh, and Addison may be better than meh at some point in the future. We're better than we were yesterday morning, and we have Zucker for 3 years, so it's not as if we mortgaged the future for just this season. Good job GMJR

We've got 2-4 years to grab one more Cup, IMO. If this move helps us achieve that, so be it. I survived the Dick Tarnstrom and Rico Fata era, I can survive anything.

For conversation's sake, did Addison soften the potential blow of losing Schultz this offseason or is that a bridge too far...for you, or anyone...

No, not really. Addison is still 2 or 3 years away from making an impact (if ever). So in a way Marino makes both exendable. He helps us now as well as years down the road.

I would've seen Addison as a potential (if he continued upward trajectory) Letang replacement, in the sense that both are good puck moving RHS D, once Letang retired, and insurance in case Marino leaves while Letang is still here.

However, I realize there's a lot of things that could happen between now and that time, so who really knows, and maybe Addison's ceiling isn't as high as Letang's.

Letang is 8th in his draft class in points (Yandle is the only D ahead of him) and is 7th in points among all defenseman since his rookie year. Even while really liking Addison as a prospect, it’s pretty unlikely that his ceiling is as high as Letang.

I'll be interested to see how the lines shake out next season. Tough to split Jake and Sid but Zucker and Rust seem to be similar players

Are we asking about only the season in which the trade happened or the acquisition’s entire time in Pittsburgh?

For each question, my answers are Daley and Kunitz
