Matt Cullen officially retires from the NHL

Matt Cullen: His Story, His Words
“I felt like it was only right to retire in Pittsburgh with everything that the organization had given me and done for me,” Cullen wrote. “I’m so happy I came back and finished my last year in Pittsburgh. I wouldn’t trade that last year for anything.”

I was a fan of his before he was a Pen, and even more so after he signed here. Good luck in retirement, Cullen.

1648 regular season and playoff games...holy monkey, that's a lot of NHL games...

19th most all time in terms of regular season games.

And with Luongo and Cullen being lost, we're down to just three players that played in the 1990's left, right? Thornton, Marleau, Chara?

What a career. Became a fan of his when he was in Carolina and am very grateful for his contribution to two Stanley Cups after coming here as a camp invite. Can't wait to avoid this story on all social media outlets. **** Yohe.

19th all time in regular season games, just under half a point per game for his career. On a scale of 1 to Guy Carbonneau, I say put him in the Hall of Fame.

I really hate when people sign with Minnesota when they don’t have to. So screw Cullen in that sense.

But what a player for us in ‘16. We were lucky to have him over the last few years.

I hate that he went to Minnesota because it gave us an entire season of Yohe jerking off to trade ideas to get him back.

That video is a bit... melodramatic? Maybe that should've been saved for a pre-game ceremony. It feels really odd to have that released now as his announcement.

I believe he's also the highest scoring player of his draft class.

I thought Craig Anderson might have made the list. He was drafted in the 90s but didn't make his debut until 2002. Tying this altogether, the number of players drafted in the 90s has to be getting noticeably smaller too.

Craig Anderson, Ryan Miller, and Derek MacKenzie are the only other players drafted in the 90s who appeared in a game last season.

Man, I would love to turn back the clock and relive April 2016 to June 2017 over again. What a time to be alive.

I was starting a new job in 2016 and things were super tense and demanding. I didn’t get to enjoy that run as much as I should have. Also Martin Jones and whatshisface from Tampa really pissed in our punch bowl. We should have rolled every team that year.

But Tampa, game 7. That arena will never be that alive ever again. I wish I kept that recording.
