That was close. At live speed, I thought Cluckerbucket should have gotten a minor...on the replay, I actually thought there wasn't a lot there...

My n00b assessment of our players:
Almost untouchable
Sid
Guentzel
Would really like to keep
McCann
Dumo
Letang
Schultz
Move if the offer is good
Malkin
Kessel
Bjugstad
Rust
Maatta
Simon*
ZAR*
Pettersson*
*=probably fetches a very small return in a trade
Indifferent
Cullen
Wilson
Hörnqvist
Johnson
Gudbrandson
The largest problem as I see it (apart from us being old and slow and non-physical) is that we have 7 defensemen that can play in the NHL. One of them should probably go, and preferingly for pick(s). It seemed as if Maatta and Pettersson could pair fairly well with Johnson and Gudbrandson before the playoffs, but anyway.
I would like to get rid of either Hörnqvist or Gudbrandson for salary cap reasons Otherwise Maatta since he can't get 4 millions for eating nachos.
Riikola can fill in if one of our six remaining defensemen gets injured.
I would entertain offers for Kessel if we can get younger. I like him for one more season, but what happens as he gets older?

Your list is bad because there is no 'Fire into the sun' category.

funny because the rest of the league loves itdodint's hate for Murray's glove hand tooWe need a poll for 'weirdest takes by a poster on this board.' Contestants so far are:
dodint's hate for Letang
Morkle's hate for Simon
Jim's hate for Malkin
shmenguin's desire to watch bdsm-on-ice
Any of LBL's hockey opinions
That's POTW. Does anyone remember POTW?

I don't think it's right, but I think Riikola is done in the NHL. I think he'll just go back to Europe. Those situations are always tough to gauge...but I imagine he won't get another shot. He could be a 6/7 in this league if he wants to be...
You have to figure like defensemen (Pettersson, Riikola, Maatta all serve a similar purpose on the roster), like handedness among expendables, and then asset (or some cases, negative value) return...
It's a delicate balance...

Blah blah blah blah blah... it’s simple, do the Pens want players that fit their system or a system that fits their players? THAT determines what happens this offseason and why they sucked his season. Pick one or the other and just do it... current players + current system = loooooosers. No shades of gray here... time to put up or shut up... especially with the stars.

What would you say our "current system" is?
2019 Penguins Offseason/Draft Thread
Offensive minded... skilled... puck possession... fast

Yeah, not a system, nor is that how we have played for much of this season. We spent a lot of time in passive forecheck situations and I'm not sure any team desires not to possess the puck...I'm not sure a coach out there thinks, "ya know, we have a better chance without the disc..."
We specifically didn't acquire speed and everyone saddled up defensively, led by the captain. Who has a good shot at finishing between 4th and 8th for the Selke on merit for the first time...

Yep still got a lot of those blue shirt wearing seat leaners here... never changes

Well, he has a clause in his contract, so there's that...Anyone entertaining the idea of moving malkin is a ****** of douches
...but with trades, it always comes down to the offer. I'd move ANYONE not named Crosby if an insane offer was made.
Don't worry though, Geno isn't going anywhere.

This BS comes up every time we don't win the Cup. Geno ain't getting traded

Oh my bad bro, please don't foe me.Damn, looks like I have to rebuild my foe list.
"Skate fast, hold onto the puck and be talented" is totally a valid hockey "system"

I didn't have any "Throw them into the sun" category, since I think that most players belong in the NHL. The largest issue I have with some is that they have a too high cap hit with respect to their performance.
...and I want us to get younger and faster or tougher, which means that I would either like to try to sell high on players that don't fulfull that, or get rid of salary to enable some UFAs to be signed.
The downside with UFAs is that they tend to be very expensive if you want to go for the more popular ones. But, if you are willing to pay, you can get someone that fits your desired style of play.
If we take Gudbrandson for example. He seems to be a decent defenseman since Martin/Gonchar have worked with him, but could we get a better player via free agency for the same salary? Probably not, especially if we would have to pay someone to take him.

Yeah, and that's the thing, every GM says that going into the year...think of the opposites...not as appealing...and I want us to get younger and faster or tougher,

I have an intense dislike for Simon. Perhaps bordering on irrational... But here's the thing... He is not a useless player. However, his complete and utter lack of finishing ability make him pretty much worthless on the top lines.
Time and again he has been forced on that top line, and time and again it does absolutely nothing when they do.
Bourque commented on this numerous times throughout the season, about how he just doesn't see what the coaching staff seems to see with him in that spot.
If he were stapled to the 4th line, with occasional 3rd line work, I wouldn't mind him being on the team... However, he always seems to pop up on that top line, much to my dismay.
Could be that he's BFF with Crosby or something, but I'd think that Crosby would rather have someone who can put tbe gd puck in the net once in awhile in that spot.
