My turn to try a video game off season ;) A big apology to mikey for stealing his trades. I try to make it up to him by making him GM ;)

Personnel change:
Out:
GMJR, Sullivan

In:
mikey as GM, Shero as trade negotiator, Quenniville as coach

Trades:
Malkin+Matta <-> Trocheck, Matheson, Hawryluk, 1st
Gudbrandson <-> Rodrigues
Kessel <-> Arizona 1st + Fischer
Matheson+Hörnqvist <-> Athanasiou

Sign:
ZAR, $0.925
Blueger, $0.65
Hawryluk, $1
Pettersson, $2
Riikola, $1
Rodrigues, $1

This makes a cap of $64.4 million if I am correct (did it in capfriendly). That should be enough for a Skinner, Duchene, Nyqvist or Eberle

I chose to add Skinner for $8.5 million.

McCann-Crosby-Guentzel
Skinner-Trocheck-Athanasiou
Rust-Bjugstad-ZAR
Hawryluk-Rodriguez-Fischer
Simon

Dumoulin-Letang
Riikola-Schultz
JJ-Pettersson
Ruhwedel

So there is still $10 million cap space and Pens have three 1st round picks. Our third line is not so good so we might have to try to get another UFA. Perhaps we would need to give Detroit the worst of our 3 firsts to complete that trade.

Asking another way, if we didn't have Guentzel and wanted a Guentzel...would you pay that for him? Assuming he's of age...
A note to go with that is can Guentzel put up without Crosby? Skinner does.

Subban might be enough for me to tune out completely.
Just like Matt Cooke and Jarko Ruutu before him.
i don't like subban because i find him to have a warped idea of competitiveness, he's dirty in a ***** kind of way and an unfunny tryhard. this isn't a matter of principal. this is just a guy who is just not fun to have around

People say that Crosby is dirty. My BIL thinks that Hornqvist is dirty.

Me as GM seems good. Even if I can only re-stock our prospects even without good picks...let Ray handle the day to day...

I would like GMJR to not bonino Schultz and make an effort to re-sign him. What are the chances of this happening?

I don't think either side has even considered that topic yet...Jultz didn't play that last season, so he's in no hurry...the Pens don't have money or, possibly, a plan...so they're in no hurry...

This is something that maybe, maybe someone opens their mouth about in January I would think...and even that's just to test the waters...

Oh, I don't expect it to be done this off-season, of course. But it'd be nice if it'd get done eventually. That said, Schultz strikes me as a "test the open market" kind of guy.

Jeremy Roenick: Penguins’ Phil Kessel will accept trade to only 1 team
https://triblive.com/sports/jeremy-roen ... -one-team/
“I know where he wants to go and we’ll see if he gets that option,” Roenick told 550 AM in Buffalo. “He does want to go west. There is one team that he does want to go play for, and I don’t think he’ll stand for anything less.

It’s pretty clear Roenick was referring to the Arizona Coyotes. Kessel and Arizona coach Rick Tocchet were close friends when they were in Pittsburgh together.
I'm a little confused since we've heard that Kessel has a list of 8 teams. Maybe Roenick means that of the 8, only 1 (Arizona) is a real option. If that's the case and Kessel/Arizona have all the leverage, I would hope the Pens would hold onto him instead.

Roenick has Mush Brain. I wouldn’t listen to a word he says. And I doubt Kessel confides with that weirdo

I mean, I think the Arizona connection was always an obvious one...

And you can only have so much leverage if you're Arizona really...I know it seems that way on the surface, but they do have trouble attracting big time (un-retired) talent and the Pens don't need to make this move and he's required to submit a list of eight teams if we ask...so he gets no say in that if we're determined to move him...

I'd say we're right about where we were...

I'm surprised. Also, Phil Bourque is more of a liar than me on this one...

One of the easier things to turn over is fringe NHLers...we have elected to go a different direction, likely trading stars...that's outside the box if nothing else...

I actually like Riikola well enough though...a fourth pairing of Riikola-Ruhwedel is pretty good actually, especially when you factor in that we have pro prospects...
