Hahah I'm so happy I'm not alone with my hatred of Reddit fans. That said, there are some really funny posts/comments on r/hockey.

- GMJR on the future of Evgeni Malkin.“I’m not at the point where I’m making any decision on that at this point,” he explained. “I just can’t answer that kind of question right now.”
Why?
“There are a lot of things to sort through right now,” he said.

It's basically what USENET used to be but more dynamic. I'm too old to appreciate it.

I don't think anyone who is serious would believe so.Malkin ain’t going anywhere.

The problem with Malkin is that his performance is so uneven. He can either be the best player in the world or just trying to take on the entire opposite team and take unnecessary/stupid penalties.
I like the fact that he can carry a whole line by himself regardless of his wings, but it needs to weighted against the bad penalties.
That is why I feel that he is not untouchable. A trade involving him would be a daring maneuver, but I would at least listen to offers.

Again, long offseason, let's talk...
The following teams are the most likely locations for Artemi Panarin: Florida, New York, Los Angeles...
Barring something unprecedented, Breadman will only end up on one of those teams...meaning, the ones that fail will be Russian-friendly and having cap space...what kind of offer would make you listen...? Remember, Malkin is 33 and his real salary is flat over time...

I couldn't pull the trigger on trading Malkin, even if it was a more than fair offer. I just couldn't.

Florida
Barkov
Huberdeau
Ekblad
Perhaps Trocheck
NYR
Zibanejad
Los Angeles
Doughty

Of those, I only think that Trocheck would be available and I think I would rather like to keep Malkin. Unless Florida intends to suck and can add one or more early first round picks.
So I guess the result would be NO DEAL...

Barkov isn't available, Doughty isn't available, I think Zbad does get made available in a deal like this, but I don't like that as a foundation personally...
So I'll throw this one out there...
Vinny Trocheck, Michael Matheson, Jayce Hawryluk, 13th overall, 104
for
Malkin and Maatta

It's not the worst deal. Not sure Matheson is almost a 5 million dollar defender but if it meant dumping JMFJ in the process in a separate deal...
Edit: Also not sure Florida wants to bring on ~4 million when trying to take a run at Panarin and Bob.

Is Trocheck better as a 2C than Zbad? Matheson is kind of similar to Dumoulin, I guess?
I think I could do such a trade during the draft, right at the 13th pick, if the player I wanted was available. A 2C, a top-4-defenseman and a pick for an aging Malkin.
We lose the best player in this trade but get a seven years younger 2C and improve the defense and our prospect pool. Maatta was a borderline healthy scratch this year, so unfortunately he will be collateral damage.
It would suck to lose Malkin and require decent wingers on the second line, but I think I could do this trade.

This assumes they don't get Panarin. If they did get Panarin anyhow, that loosens up Jonathan Huberdeau or Mike Hoffman...but not to us, probably...
Trocheck is different than Zbad, but maybe not "better"...Trocheck works harder, worse DJ though...
Yeah, Matheson is a more mobile version of Maatta basically...very smart, plays it pretty mistake free...
The worst part of this deal is that in every one of the 82 games a year we play we'd have to hear that Trocheck is from Pittsburgh...
