As long as he doesn't unretire midway through the season, would love to have Cullen stick around. Think he would make an excellent player development coach.

And so long as nobody gives him an official title that includes the word 'dad'.

Apparently GMJR is content with his defense and is trying to add a forward.
Right, because anyone who watched a game last year knows the defense is soooooo good

So an anti-Kessel type of player. One who can find his defensive zone without a road map and a flashlight.Penguins are in the market for a two-way forward, per Molinari.

Outside of Myers and Stralman, I don't know who really upgrades our situation really...Claesson would be nice, but like Pettersson, he doesn't exactly move the needle too far...

re: Cullen. Dude wouldn't even stay here as a player because he missed Minnesota so bad, but the Pens want to retain him as staff? Please.

I still don't feel comfortable with JMFJ but any issues with this defense aren't going to be solved today. GMJR loves himself some trades before the end of the calendar year and if the defense remains an issue I'm sure he'll make a move. As it is, they have the defense set up as they like with the L-R pairings and I imagine things will look like:
Dumo-Letang
Pettersson-Schultz
Johnson-Gudbranson
Riikola-Beetle
Four left-handed defensemen and four right-handed defensemen. mikey just went from six to midnight.
That third pairing makes my butthole pucker, but if you have them on the ice with a defensively responsible forward line instead of the **** the Pens threw out last year, I would expect things to go better, it's just a question of how much better. Defense is a team concept and the forward's defensive effort last season was just as much of a failing as the defensemen.
That third pairing might also be an impetus for this team to employ a more traditional "shut down" third line instead of the three scoring line concept they've tried using in years past. I have no idea what that third line would be, because I don't like Jugs, McCann, Kahun, or Simon as the center for that kind of line, but it would make sense to go that route if Johnson and Gubranson are the third defense pairing.

I mean, that sounds nice...but is it really worth paying for someone to take one of those bums away and then replace them with, what?Outside of Myers and Stralman, I don't know who really upgrades our situation really...Claesson would be nice, but like Pettersson, he doesn't exactly move the needle too far...

I'm not even necessarily disagreeing, because I wouldn't have ever let the defense get like this if I had a say...but it's getting clearer by the day that we have been punched in the mouth and do not have a plan...Tyson was right...

Dreger says we're in on Brandon Tanev from Winnipeg...he has almost no skill, but he competes like a bastard...he works his sac off every shift, hits everything that moves, blocks every shot he can...just works and works and works...

I’m a big Tanev fan, but I often think he uses the wrong handed stick.
I’d take him on my team any day, but he can turn a round puck square

Dude did manage 14 goals last year. I think that's more than our entire fourth line combined.

I'm guessing you won't be satisfied until JR is retired/fired and that's your real gripe here.Is it because we punched ourselves in the mouth?
