There was never a real restriction on that. Customarily, you wait 48 hours though after the Cup clears. June 15th is when the offseason really starts, buyout window opens, all that...

I thought this was the Pirates thread at first glance.

Not this weekend, but next. We pick at 21 on the 21st.

I will not be there this year... :(

I was at the draft in 2012. We traded Staal and everyone got super excited because a bunch of dumb teams had passed on Filip Forsberg and now we were going to get him and he was going to play on Sid or Geno's wing and everything was going to be sweet and another cup was in our immediate future and then that **** OCD goof Ray Shero stepped up on stage and announced Derrick Pouliot and everyone was super confused because Derrick Pouliot is not Filip Forsberg and he's also not Jacob Trouba and after that everyone was kind of depressed and the night got weird but people were still slightly optimistic because we had another first round pick and maybe we would take a forward with that one but there were no good forwards left so we took another **** defensemen who became a measles ridden cancer survivor with zero working shoulders and lead feet.

I don't think I would go to the draft again.

Just looked back at that draft. Woof. Lots of misses in that first round. Yeah some have stuck in the NHL but nothing great.

hot take: bench him game 1 and get the streak over with so we can treat him like any other player going forward with rest/maintenance days
Seriously. It's not like he's hitting .200 and his dad is the coach.

Which is worse... drafting someone other than Filip Forsberg at #8, or drafting Filip Forsberg at #11 and then trading him 10 months later for Martin Erat, who scored 2 goals in 62 games over the next 11 months before being moved for a 4th round pick, a career AHLer and a guy who was already out of the league?

Definitely the latter. Because he became a lot better in that 12 months. I wasn't really that sold on Forsberg in his draft year...but I was a lot more impressed in his D+1 season...

On the surface it sounds good?
Kahun played a full 82 games with the Blackhawks in 2018-2019, his rookie season, scoring 13 goals, 24 assists for 37 points.

Well kahun scored 37 in 82. Sucks to lose maatta but it was going to happen regardless.
