He hasn't been the same since... About the time he had the kid. Not saying that's the reason but yeah.

Yeah, that's nice, let's give those trash cans in the stands more to chant about by gooning it up at the end. Take the loss and just go home already.
Isles in their heads. Had a feeling this would happen. No answer for the 4th line nor the physical play. Run around like chickens with heads cut off and get drawn into the nonsense , get beat, try and act tough. Feels like a flyers game..
I was thinking something similar -- they've played so poorly against bad teams this year that just seems like a carryover. And if was said earlier in the thread that the team's inconsistency from most of the season has returned in spades. It's almost like the things they did in February that got them back on track for the playoff spot has dissolved.

Can’t believe that putting Simon on Crosby’s line didn’t turn the game our way.

Murray was very good tonight. Without him it could have easily been 6 or 7 to 1. Too bad Malkin couldn't play, oh wait he did.

**** Rutherford made this team so **** soft

Trading Ryan Reaves was the worst move for this franchise in the last decade

You don't beat toughness with more toughness. You beat toughness by being able to skate faster than the tough teams. And they are slow. Their fourth line sucks. Their second line isn't going right now. And they're just slow in general.

I said this at game 50ish. This team isn’t fast enough to be as soft as they are.

Their fourth line sucks.
How can you say such a thing when it’s DAD and key player Garrett Wilson?

Well, I don’t know why I expected a win tonight, but I did. I’m so disappointed.

We’ve seen plenty of teams come back from 2-0 over the years—including our guys. They do have it in them.

We say that they’re good at playing down to their opponent, and play well when faced with a good team, right? Let’s flip it around, then. The Isles are playing like a good team. So, now it’s time to rise.

Hope the PPG Paints crowd brings it.

Historically, the pens have been pretty bad at trying to beat toughness with toughness

Isles had 6 power plays and the pens 2. How often do teams with 6 pp opportunities lose playoff games at home?

I have no clue what GMJR was thinking after we won our back to back cups...He traded for Reeves because they got beat up in the 2017 playoffs but STILL won the freaking Stanley Cup with a fast and young team. Fast forward to 2019 and now they are an old and slow team getting embarrassed by a fast and young team. Why the **** did he think he needed to make a team that won back to back cups with youth and speed older and slower??

The Pens aren't losing because they aren't tough.

They're losing because outside of maybe 2 players, their defense by and large is #bad. Like, really bad.

Jack Johnson is trash #1. Adding him to the back end has caused a whole slew of issues because for some reason, no one in management can see how big of a **** issue he is.

And we still have another 4 years on that contract. And 2 more for Gudbranson (dont get me wrong, he turned his poor D play around, but he's not exactly fleet of foot).

As Cags said, the guys they've added the past two offseasons have been pretty much the opposite of what made the team successful in their B2B Cup runs.

Why can't we begin each series with a heavy forecheck :( Hammering their defensemen the first few games might cost us a game, but will make their D more hesitant. And over a long series it hurts to get a lot of hits and know that you will get more...

Maybe because outside of garret Wilson and hornquist no one throws a body check. Multiple times last night Cullen and ZAR in on the forrcheck and no hits whatsoever. As someone said they're too soft to play this slow.

Agreed, but if you can't outskate a tough team, you can beat them with skill *if* you execute precision passing, manage the puck extremely well (especially on the counter-attack), score on the power play, and stay out of the box. The reason game 2 was a loss, in reality, was because the Pens spent WAY too much time in the box.

The Pens have enough talent to execute the things I mentioned above, and they could win the next 4 games if they do so. Only question is whether this group of guys has the desire in their gut to do it. We'll see in game 3.

Today, I’ve been thinking of Kevin Stevens’ guarantee when the Pens went down 2-0 to the Bruins and Jordan Staal’s series-changing SHG vs the DRW.

Looking for hope here.

DON’T BE DUMB isn’t the best rallying cry but it’s the one I’m using in game 3.

It's not the position the Pens want to be in, but take it one game at a time. Win game 3 first. Go from there.

That Islanders goal was 100% Murray. Even hinting blame on Pettersson is folly. Murray needlessly slid to nearly the 5th row of seats. He put himself out of position so bad, DeSmith was closer to the net.

I don’t like the way hornqvist is choosing to spend his twilight years. Just getting beaten up in scrums and spazzing out at all times...it’s fine if you don’t score 25 a year anymore. Just show a little bit of focus. This isn’t helping.
