I forgot how negative these threads are. Ugh.

Day after reads are cringe-worthy.

Seriously though, F Letang.

Were they chanting “dadhole” as Gudbranson was being carried off?

I saw that Letang saw an opening and silently screamed at him to just let it go and change, because bad things were happening behind him ... alas. The Pens made a ton of glaring mistakes last night and in the grand scheme of things it's probably for the best that they didn't get away with it. What bothers me is that this is the sort of game they used to play a ton of in the first half of the season. Not a good time to revert back to idiot hockey. They looked as if they had no idea what the Isles would throw at them, which is disturbing. I think HCMS tried to outfox the fox and it backfired. Pens in 5.

Little too much caffeine in some of our guys last night...Rust overplayed the game, Letang overplayed the game...

I think we got a shot at seeing JMFJ for Pettersson in game 2...I know Maatta had a rough night, but he's probably got, what, 60-70 playoff games? Pettersson has five...and he's been on the wrong side of all of them. I think if they're gonna make a change, they're going to go with an experienced guy who has seen it all...just my speculation though...

Crosby, Malkin and Kessel I thought were pretty good throughout, nice to see them...McCann and Simon had very good games too...ZAR looked predictably rusty, he'll come around...

We already have a breakout system that's designed to beat this heavy forecheck...when you have this kind of forecheck and you make these hits, it's about slipping little passes into the middle...this would work all the time at the high school and college level because these heavy forechecks are common, but the players aren't skilled enough to make the breakout work...we have the skill to do it...it's just about being able to absorb the hits, it's gonna put a lot of wear and tear on our defense, but there's no way to get out of that...we knew it was gonna be a grind, so you just gotta lean into the curve here and just accept it...we have a game installed to beat this...

Their defense, to a man, is not particularly good...especially in small areas...quick little nimble plays in tight spots, little give n gos...little isolation plays out of corners will work...you can turn losers like Scott Mayfield inside out with relative ease, same for Pelech...Toews is talented, lacks experience against high-end talent...

We need to be better defensively though, you can't have a guy like Tom Kuhnhackl walking half your team...you can't give plugs confidence because then you get trouble...I'm fine with playing these guys 2-1...I'm not fine with them getting 4 in a game because that creates a different world...it won't morph into a track meet because it can't, it will just give losers confidence...just don't overplay the game, it's gonna get a little itchy because there's some shifts that are just gonna have to be a ping pong match, but you have to be prepared mentally for that and take charge when you have the numbers or the speed to make a difference...Letang didn't do that on the OT loser, and here we are...

Just stop criticizing everything. That's the solution.
Is this serious or an anti-Gaucho position?

They played like crap and could have won it in OT. Frustrating, but in hindsight provides a light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah.

They also had two other goals disallowed in the Pens favor. The final score really could have been anything last night. Well, varying margins of victory for the Islanders I mean.

Oh, I was being 100% sarcastic. I needed to vent after that **** show last night, and will likely do so if it happens again. Most do.

How about we looked like dogshit with the puck and handled it like a grenade, but it took to overtime to beat us.
Because 2 of the Isles goals were disallowed... 8-)

In all seriousness, there were just too many mistakes in last night's game. Inconsistency reared its' ugly head once again. That's what has me concerned, you never know which team you'll get from game to game.

i've pounded this drum plenty, but this thing where we're one of the daintiest teams in the league was fine in '16...barely fine in '17 and continues to be shitty entertainment in '18 and beyond now that we aren't better than everyone. i don't enjoy the combination of not winning and getting purple nurpled in the process.

I'm assuming you put Johnson then back with Schultz... and then that leaves Maatta on the left with Gudbranson?

I mean unless you want to have a pairing that hasn't been together all that much together in the 2nd pairing, and a third pairing that I don't think has played at all together.

I mean subbing in Johnson for Maatta... are you really losing all that much if at all? You have 3 defensive pairings that have played well together in the past few months. Other than the past, I don't know what Maatta brings this defensive groups that requires guys being paired in new pairings. At least we can keep the L/R pairings.

69 to be exact. How many of them were good though? I get the point that Pettersson doesn't have much playoff experience, but everyone has to start somewhere. For all of his experience, has Maatta really improved in any significant way since his rookie season? Maatta was smashed ass last night and was low on the pecking order of even strength time, whereas Pettersson was second only to Letang. It won't surprise me if Pettersson is dropped, but it wouldn't be my move.

Also, **** Garrett Wilson.

My Pens viewing is down precipitously this year, so allow me to give you a wholly uninformed view:

I wish Nick Leddy played for the Pens and I wish I could skate like that dude.

The D as a whole was pretty clown car.

Was Maatta awful this year? He looked terrible, but sitting him now would appear to be a panic move. He's plainly one of the best six dmen we have.

I know this is heresy, but Crosby's line was not good imo. Noticeably bad.

In the circa 5 or so games I have watched Gudbranson play in person/on TV with the Pens, he's been really good. Has this been the case since we got him? Because he was supposed to be trash from my understanding.

Islanders fans are morons.

Maatta had a very Maatta year. Some good, some bad, some surprisingly dumb for a smart player. I'd say he's top six, but mikey's Sullivan's LH-RH obsession might supercede that

Crosby's line was bad. Rust was especially bad.

EG has been good; plays within himself, hasn't really been caught out of position, uses his size well.

Yes.
