We're at a point where no longer is my immediate answer: Johnson. What a time to be alive...
The chorus of complaints about JJ seems to have subsided. Is he playing better?

I think the best upside for JJ is to be in a state of which you don't notice him and he has nearly achieved it.

Yes, very much so. Which is startling...because he's been exactly the same player his entire life, but in the last several weeks, hasn't been running around like a clown...

Jacques Martin deserves a lot of credit.

I wonder if Jacques Martin and Sergei Gonchar are still with us in October...I'm not sure they both are...

I assume that Martin leaves every year, and if he doesn't, terrific.

There is no fan base worse than the islanders. They still celebrate February of 2011 like it’s a holiday and piss on the only good thing to come out of their franchise since Benoit Hogue because he chose not to play in an oversized trash can.

It’s going to be anything but boring. Trotz is going to whip up their inferiority complex to the point where anything that goes against them will be a call to arms.

Not sure how this is any different than normal.

Yeah I've never even considered Lightning fans. Like, I know they have fans and people show up to games, but they're just kind of there.

Internet Caps fans are the worst internet fans. But the ones who exist beyond their parents’ WiFi are fine. I’m not sure why they’re particularly bad on message boards and comment sections. It’s really bizarre.

Montreal and Buffalo are particularly bad, as far as outrage culture goes. Also hard to explain, since both franchises should be used to their fates of mediocrity by now.

I really like Buffalo sports fans, they seem knowledgeable, passionate, yet know their place in the basement of their sports...yeah, they had two tough looks go against them back to back (1999 skate in the crease, 2000 Music City Miracle) and they're still a little sore from that...but otherwise, I've enjoyed a lot of conversations I've had with Buffaloans, Buffalites, Buffalicious?

Also, we have ruled out that this is shmenguin's burner account immediately.

...but phil was playing within himself and didn't do stupid phil things, so i feel cautiously optimistic that he's doing a hard reboot and building his game back

Exactly, and it's not only JJ. It seems the entire team is buying in, and they appear to be transitioning from a team that once relied on speed to a team that manages the puck well and creates chances off of turnovers by the opponent. 12 short handed goals since December (while at the same time drastically cutting back the SHG allowed), and just timely shot blocking and better puck management and support overall.

Have they turned the proverbial corner? We will find out in a few weeks. It is encouraging that a lot of players are chipping in, and the team has been winning essentially without any of their star players scoring (and two of them not dressing at all). Murray occasionally lets in a squeaker, but if he's posting a .950 save percentage, I really like this team's chances when they keep the shots and quality chances down. If Sid, Geno, and Phil all manage to get going at the same time for a reasonable stretch of games, this team will be flat out deadly in a seven game series.
