This game thread was ruined by mikey’s obsession with Simon.

I'm sure everyone knows this is ironic sarcasm. But just in case they don't hang around here often enough and can't tell...I have about 20 posts this season that mention Simon, 10% of them occurring today...you have about 50. And I post about twice as much as you hahaThis game thread was ruined by mikey’s obsession with Simon.

I am curious as to what you see as Simon's skill level that exceeds Blueger's and probably agree with shmegy's assessment of Simon. I don't think either is a particularly strong skater and would give Blueger the edge on shooting and physicality. Simon has shown flashes of solid playmaking ability, but it's typically when on Sid's line and too frequently comes and goes. Outside of a fourth line role I don't think either is going to be more than the third best player on a line, but as I've tried to state before in between my frequent bouts of ironic sarcasm, I don't think Simon is a bad player, I just don't understand the coaching staff's love for him.

Simon could get lost and miss the plane back from NY and no one would ever realize he didn't come back

I just thought it was funny how mikey called out Blueger, and then he potted a few shortly thereafter. The shafjinx has died, long live the mikeyjinx.

Well, I mean, I called him out after he scored, so...and then he missed the puck on his second goal hahaI just thought it was funny how mikey called out Blueger, and then he potted a few shortly thereafter. The shafjinx has died, long live the mikeyjinx.

I think Simon has better hands, better passing, better poise, I think he's just a little bit more able to make plays in tight spots right now...I don't think either of them are noteworthy skaters...but yeah, DS can't be a driver of play at this level right now...he's a third wheel...but a third wheel in a scoring role...Blugers is a third wheel in depth role for me...and that's difference the coaching staff sees I think...that Simon can kill less offensive forays than his alternatives, I think there's a point to be made there...he has more upside, now and future for me and I think the coaching staff agrees...
I don't think Simon is several tiers better than, well, anything really...but I think his usage has made sense given what we're working with...and moreover, they really haven't forcefed him either, as I think he's been health bombed a few times too...

The Pens must've won, the bickering is relatively tame today.

Kessel is good in non-competitive games. And will struggle when the stakes elevate.

So do I. He has hands, is smart, can skate.. but at some point he has to produce. Beau Bennett had talent tooI like Simon.

Beau Bennett was also hurt 75% of the time

Isn't consensus opposite. He only tries in competitive games. Thrives in playoffs. Also leads league in gwg which is well something but somewhat means he's scoring before the outcome is determined. Not like hitting a homer in the 9th during a blowout to pad statsKessel is good in non-competitive games. And will struggle when the stakes elevate.

He is good and doubles his effort when he smells a scoring chance. When his linemates are buzzing (hbk) and this usually happens during competitive games
He's more focused then and willing to backcheck into the neutral zone for a turnover and to take some contact on the boards to keep the play alive in the o zone

5th among Pens forwards in ES points...but 9th among forwards in ES ice time.
1. Crosby 65
2. Guentzel 59
3. Malkin 45
4. Kessel 43
5. Rust 31
6. Simon 24
7. Hornqvist 23
8. Aston-Reese 16
9. Cullen 14
10. McCann 13
Bennett, no such production. Only 37 ES points in 129 games as a Penguin. Simon already has more.

That's kind of by default, considering injuries to ZAR, Horny and Cullen and McCann only being here a month. Give Cullen the time Simon got on Sid's line and he'd have 24 points too.5th among Pens forwards in ES points...but 9th among forwards in ES ice time.

this is one of those disingenuous stats you wouldn't care for if it was coming from the other direction. you can go brick by brick with 7-10 and explain why this is a neutral endorsement of simon.
also, if you take into account that rust was going through some sort of crisis for 40 games, you'd see a binary list of good players and...everyone else.

I bet ZAR would have more points on Sid's line than Simon would.
