Honestly, **** draft picks.
The difference between like a 20th pick and a 50th pick in the NHL draft seems minimal. Unless it's inside the top 10, it doesn't matter.

GMJR sounds positively delighted about this trade. Loves that the Penguins got younger, that these guys won't be UFA's and that they can play center or wing. Will have way more up on the website shortly.
Bjugstad will start as the third line center but GMJR said he could shift to wing at some point. Penguins love McCann in a bottom-six role. He's only 22, former first round pick. Love his potential.

A fresh start on a team that can compete for the Cup could do them well.

This isn't the case really. At 20, even in a weaker draft like this one, you still have a shot at one of your "A" guys...at 50, you have no chance.

30 to 50, now you're making some sense though...

Wasn’t McCann a highly touted prospect?

I mean, sure, in the same way that every prospect is highly touted by someone...

In reality, he was pretty polarizing...he's kind of a "yeah, but..." prospect...that turned into a "yeah, but..." player...and now he's in his third organization at the age of 22.

He has good hands.
Yeah, but...how often can he really get by a quality defenseman...

He works hard and plays it both ways.
Yeah, but...it's pretty easy to knock him off the puck. You'd think he was 5'10"...

He has a really strong shot.
Yeah, but...it takes him a while to get it off...

The nice thing is is that Bjugstad is RHS and if they plan to use him at center (which I remain wary of...), that adds some dimension to us...it will benefit whoever is on his left...which will probably be McCann...

Heard that GMJR did his due diligence on this one...there was a lot of interest in Brassard around the league...a couple of teams were a little gunshy about getting out in front of the deadline so early...but he had multiple healthy discussions and offers, and this is what we got...value-wise, it may not have been the best, but macro-level it may have been, if the pro guys believe in Cans and Jugs...which they obviously do...

Right now...we have our 1st in 2019, Buf 4th*, our 5th, our 7th and VGK 7th now. We don't have a 2nd in 2020 either (Fleury).

* - Sheary has 8 goals and 21 points this season. He needs to hit 20 goals or 40 points for us to get Buf's 3rd. He's on pace for 38 at the moment. (We play Buffalo 3/1 and 3/14...maybe we start Pechurskiy those nights...)

Rutherford also said he figured he would have to move Brassard for a draft pick, then flip that pick elsewhere for his replacement. Then he started talking to Florida.

As most things anymore, I really have no clue into these guys so I will just revert to in GMJR I trust!!

In my humble opinion, Bjugstad is more fun to say than Brassard, so this is a slam dunk.

May be true too. Either way, there was a good amount of interest...I know of at least one team that was offering a roster player...
