As long as these two are "here are some general ideas, now go out and be hard to play against" guys that don't need any kind of system to fall back on, I'm all for it because we're not losing anyone that was going to thrive under Sullivan. I also like that fact that they've played on the same line. In the short term at least that fits Sully's "rotate singles with an established duo until something works" mentality. Can anyone project which of our guys might work well with them? Did I see someone say Pearson?

Nick is the nephew of Scott Bjugstad, who played 24 games for the Pens in 1988-89.

This is a good point. Good perspective.

McCann and Bjugstad can both shoot, but for various reasons take some time to get to that point. If Jugs plays the middle as a RHS, he'd have McCann on his LW as a LHS. A RHS playmaking RW would make it tough for Jugs to catch passes, something he's not great at as it is. Basically, Jagr would be the right fit for this group...as we just added Kip Miller and Jan Hrdina haha...

With Malkin out, Sully just had them center the 2nd & 3rd lines tonight and I saw some good stuff. Bjugstad was really calm with the puck, good effort on faceoffs, good stick. McCann played a 200 ft. game, and I caught a great rotation back when his right D pinched. Can't complain if they play like this all the time.

I do agree with GMJR in that I am very happy we got younger. I think the Pens were almost the oldest team in the league, or may have been. Speed kills, and that injection of youth will be fun to watch.

Jugs is a better nickname.

He apparently hates all of his nicknames, so he keeps getting more...he was getting called rotisserie chicken for a while...

I remember the sheer desperation of that season. We were missing like half of our roster, and I so badly wanted the Kovalev signing to be some magical spark that led to a miracle in the playoffs that year. Nope.

It sucks to lose the best player in the deal AND give away draft picks :(

I get that Brassard was a UFA but still

I hope that one of the new guys can play 3C well...

Brassard is definitely a better player than he showed here. That said, his time was up. Maybe he’ll have better luck wherever Florida trades him, but I can see why he was moved.

Heard that GMJR did his due diligence on this one...there was a lot of interest in Brassard around the league...a couple of teams were a little gunshy about getting out in front of the deadline so early...but he had multiple healthy discussions and offers, and this is what we got...value-wise, it may not have been the best, but macro-level it may have been, if the pro guys believe in Cans and Jugs...which they obviously do...

Right now...we have our 1st in 2019, Buf 4th*, our 5th, our 7th and VGK 7th now. We don't have a 2nd in 2020 either (Fleury).

* - Sheary has 8 goals and 21 points this season. He needs to hit 20 goals or 40 points for us to get Buf's 3rd. He's on pace for 38 at the moment. (We play Buffalo 3/1 and 3/14...maybe we start Pechurskiy those nights...)
Looks like the Buffalo pick can also become a 3rd if they somehow manage to trade Hunwick before the draft.
