TRADE: Sprong finally sprung; traded for Marcus Pettersson
TRADE: Sprong finally sprung; traded for Marcus Pettersson
When I read the stats about Pettersson (4 assists last 6 games, 18 minutes a game) it seems that he was kind of established in Anaheim. Isn't the return in the form of an unproven Sprong quite low?

I think they were showcasing him a bit. He was only getting 12-14 minutes a game for the majority of the season, then got bumped to 18. He responded well to the showcase apparently.

They had other guys with more upside that can replace Pettersson right now. If Sprong is able to hit his potential they get a guy that can put up ~25 goals a season. They have to clear the way for Mahura and these other guys...Pettersson isn't a difference maker on that blueline, Mahura has that upside...they need speed and a shot...Sprong provides that (theoretically) and this also will make their likely dealing of Jakob Silfverberg (just a shot, but a good two-way player...Marian Hossa lite) a little easier to swallow.
I think it's a pretty even swap. Pettersson has a higher floor, Sprong has a higher ceiling. In exchange for the upside, we get the roster flexibility...

Pettersson’s shot rates aren’t great, but neither are any of the Ducks defensemen’s rates. I have to wonder if that’s a Randy Carlyle effect on the team as a whole. Let’s not forget that this is the guy who didn’t know how to use a toaster.

He also tucks shirts into jeans. I'm surprised he is allowed to use a knife for his toast.
