No, you can't - and that's the point tonight. Win or lose we go right back to working together to make a better world.

Losing Letang and Schultz hurts. Riikola is not ready for primetime.

Yes. He was putrid tonight after having played better recently. Minus #58 and #4, in addition to the defensively sound Brassard, the defense was exposed tonight and they all looked really bad. Rude Beetle, in particular, was Charmin Ultra Soft.

Not sure what the consensus here was but my opinion from the PPG Paints Arena is that may have been the unluckiest game I've ever seen. How many bad bounces led straight to odd man rushes for them? And how many posts did we hit? It was unreal.

Also, wtf was Sheahan doing below the net on the one timer goal?

2 goals were direct results of referees/linesmen getting in the way. A third was interference on Hagelin either by Eberle or a rut in the ice (replay never showed as they were too busy figuring out offsides or not). Other than that, poor defensive positioning was the real achilles heel last night. The Isles didn't have to break much of a sweat.

Evgeni Malkin (949) moved past Chris Chelios (948) for 99th place on the NHL's all-time career scoring list.

I know Chelios was around for a couple centuries, but I didn't think he got anywhere near 1,000 points.

In his early decades, Chelios was a point producing machine. Also, the goaltending was on par with putting a garbage can in the crease

Chelios is one of the best d-men in history...and he didn't start really producing until goaltending talent began to catch up with the rest of the league, to be fair...he didn't win his first Norris until like 1988 or 89 I think...

I probably rate him a little higher than most...but in my rough draft of the top 120 players of all-time, Chelios landed at 23. The 9th best defenseman on the list. He can't be too far from that really...

Because Chelios was mentioned...

https://www.nytimes.com/1992/06/01/spor ... -line.html

Chicago's Chris Chelios said he wasn't really that angry or out of control, he was simply punching Larry Murphy in the head several times so that the referee would blow his whistle and stop play and prevent the Pittsburgh Penguins from scoring an empty-net goal.

"I've done that before and it has worked," Chelios said of his strategy in the last minute of Game 3 Saturday night. "I just used whatever judgment I thought was best, but I guess I made a mistake."

Judgment and mistakes were the major topics of discussion today as the Blackhawks and the Penguins prepared for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. Although the Penguins never scored into the empty Chicago net, they held on for a 1-0 victory that gave them a 3-games-to-0 lead in the four-of-seven-game series. They can clinch their second consecutive championship Monday night at Chicago Stadium. Referee's Judgment Questioned

The incident began when Chelios and Murphy started hitting each other with their sticks as Chicago swarmed the Pittsburgh zone after the Hawks had pulled goalie Ed Belfour for an extra attacker in an attempt to tie. The referee, Don Koharski, didn't call any penalties for the stick action, and his judgment was later questioned by his supervisor.

Fearing the Penguins would get puck possession and score to clinch the game, Chelios began punching Murphy, who fell to the ice and refused to fight back.

Murphy said of Chelios's punches: "I was surprised he did it. They still had a chance to get back in the game. I couldn't get a penalty, that's all I was thinking. Obviously, it wasn't one of the greatest moments of my career." Mistake Is Admitted

Koharski called a five-minute major and a game misconduct on Chelios as fans littered the ice with debris, including a rum bottle that didn't shatter. With Chicago short-handed, the Penguins survived the final 30 seconds with more ease than expected.

Koharski wasn't available for comment Saturday night or today, N.H.L. officials said, but Wally Harris, the supervisor of officials assigned to the game, said afterward that Koharski had made a mistake.

"This was one of the times we were wrong," said Harris, who added that the problem would have been solved and the one-sided fight avoided if Koharski had called minor penalties against both players for stick infractions. "You're better off calling both penalties right away."

Murphy said he was surprised to hear that the man in charge of the officials for the game would criticize the referee.

"I think he is way out of line making comments to the press," Murphy said of Harris's comments. "I don't understand that. Where does he get off second-guessing the referee? They are supposed to be on the same side." 'The Only Way to Stop Play'

Chelios's explanation for punching Murphy shed light on one of the more bizarre strains of hockey logic: that fighting is all right when pre-calculated to achieve planned results.

"I saw them intercept a pass and I figured the only way to stop them from getting an empty-netter was to start an altercation," Chelios said. "That's my excuse.

"I figured that was the only way to stop the play. If I was just wrestling with him, with my gloves on, I don't think they would have stopped the play. I was upset with Murphy, but that doesn't matter. If there were five minutes left, I never would have done that. But with 30 seconds left, there's no better time."

Pittsburgh's goal was scored by Kevin Stevens in the first period on a carom after Jim Paek blasted from the blue line. Tom Barrasso, the Pittsburgh goalie, has given up one goal in the last two games. The Penguins have won 10 consecutive games, one short of the record set by Chicago earlier in these playoffs. Jeremy Roenick of the Chicago played despite a sore right thumb.

I like the supervisor claiming that calling the guy for a 5 minute major for punching someone in the head was wrong because he should have just called the slashes.

Yeah, I can see it now, he calls slashes behind the play - and everyone is mad because he stopped the blackhawks control of the puck down 1-0.

I mean let's be honest... the Hawks had the puck, they lost it... Chelios starts punching Murphy.. the offical did the right thing.
