Caps are a good team. Trotz coached pretty damn well in the series, especially last night. Pens were an Oshie post and a Kuznetsov brain injury away from not even sniffing overtime.
I mean, we had a lot of close chances too

Caps are a good team. Trotz coached pretty damn well in the series, especially last night. Pens were an Oshie post and a Kuznetsov brain injury away from not even sniffing overtime. As has already been stated numerous times, Pens looked slow and worn out. Since the start of the 15-16 season Sid played in 303 games, including that World Cup bullshit. Geno 265. Phil 307. Horny 283. Hags 278. Maatta 268 on the heels of cancer, multiple shoulder surgeries, and the mumps. Dumo 290. The past two offseasons have each lasted like 90 days. 61 playoff games over a 3 year period.

That's a lot of hockey and a lot of tough hockey with not much time off. It catches up to you and no matter how much you don't want it to, there's not much that can be done about it. (Personally, I would have given the big names some healthy scratch nights throughout the season to keep them from getting too worn down). I think the Pens are better than the Caps, but I don't think a broken, battered, beaten, and exhausted Pens team is better than the Caps. Losing sucks, but it's impossible to win forever. There's a reason why the last back to back cup champions to make it past the second round were the Islanders.
Yeah and they were a couple Letang brain farts away from a 4-2 series win. They play him too darn much.

If I was 25 I'd probably still be seething over last night. Now that I'm 35 and the fact that the Pens just won back to back cups... I find myself just not really caring about last night. It's over and done with. You can't win them all, and it's not like we hadn't won a cup in 30 years. Would have been nice to 3 peat, but yeah. I'm strangely ok with losing last night.

I'm 26 and I'm over it. Certainly doesn't hurt nearly as much as any of our losses between '10-15

i didn't care last night, and it was very very weird. i got some work crisis coming in at the end of regulation and was like, "ok, i'll deal with this now". so i paused for like 60 minutes, did my work thing, resumed the game, saw that we lost, made some mundane posts here and went to bed. woke up not even thinking about the game.

it's not because i don't care. i don't even know if it's because we've been so blessed. i think it was seeing 5 minutes of the first period and realizing this team has nothing left to give. so what's the point in being emotionally vested for those 3 hours?

I will say that I didn't have as strong of a reaction to this loss as I would have. I remember when we lost game 3 of the 2013 ECF vs Boston, I think I sat on my couch, knees up, head in shirt just sulking for a solid hour, maybe hour and a half...I was despondent...

I think there is recent achievement vs. expectation vs. anticipation scale that factors in...

When Kuzy got the breakaway, I slid up on my chair that I rock back and forth on, then he scored and I rolled back onto my floor, sat and stared at the ceiling for a minute or two...and then went just a bit numb for a second...sat up, watched the handshakes, put on the other game, probably stared pretty blankly at that game for a bit, grabbed something to eat and started posting here again...

It was a pretty minimal reaction from me...I saw that they didn't have much left to give...I would have greatly preferred we got through this series, no question...but it's not as horrific as 2013 ECF game 3, 2012 ECQF game 1, etc.

I'm wearing all black today because today is a day of mourning and remembrance, but I'm ok I think...and if Tampa does their job, I'll get to enjoy the Stanley Cup Final...

Tampa has some more feistiness right? I feel like the Pens were a little rattled by the Wilson hits in games two and three.

We're so used to seeing the Caps lose, I'm not sure I can gain any satisfaction from watching them lose to a good team.

I also kind of hate Tampa, Callahan and Johnson are pricks.

Winnipeg or LV really are the only teams I could stomach winning.

callahan and johnson don't do anything significantly worse than our pricks do. it's when you get the couturier Greg Luganis routine, the wilson head shots, the Trotz bullshit defense of the headshots and professor smith pelly and his conspiracy theories...THIS is the behavior we can be smug and judgmental about.

Not a deeply held conviction, I just remember disliking him during the ECF two years ago.
