Here’s hoping that Hornqvist continues doing what he’s doing.

It's all working the officials. I would argue that the league/officials are pretty easily manipulated. I would be willing to bet that if there is a questionable goalie interference call, it goes that Caps way. Aside from maybe professional wrestling, no league is more obsessed with executing "make up" calls.
While I completely agree about being easily manipulated, I also think that, especially in the context of a playoff series, massaging too hard can backfire. I mean Holtby may have a point about the picklestabbing, as meow has pointed out, but dodint it too much about a nothing play...when your team gained a goal when your team did what your dodinting about but way worse, and you really risk losing credibility with the officials.*

*this assumes that the officials actually review film of the games they work and don't just spend their off time drinking Molson Canadian from cans watching Goon on repeat.

The ref goalie relationship is a different dynamic than any other in game. A goalie wins more calls with honey than vinegar. A simple, “Hey, thanks for the quick whistle. Can you keep an eye on 72? He’s taking an extra whack when I clearly have it. Thanks”

Boom. You just bought yourself some space in the ref’s good graces.

Yeah, goalies probably have more godric-chat-able time than anyone with officials. Linesmen, refs, they're always down there for pucks, faceoffs, scrums, whatever...

I used to have a goalie a while back - and I'll tell ya, he obviously didn't go to the Ed Belfour school with this move - when he got upset with officiating in the game, every puck that he froze, he would slide it into the back of his own net after the whistle so the official would have go all in there and get it...which is very annoying...

That's the vinegar that meow mentioned above...

So you're telling me complaining about a call in a post game interview isn't so smart. Hmph

I bet he was a sieve. Purposefully putting a puck in your own net? Hatchi matchi. That gives me the willies. I was the polar opposite. I wouldn’t even leave pucks in my net during practice. If we had a low shot volume drill, I’d pull all the pucks out and any subsequent puck that got in there. If we had a high shot volume drill, I’d wait for a break and tilt the net forward and push them all out the back.

Yeah, it was the only goalie I have ever seen and likely ever will see do that. Most goalies don't even like tape or other ish from the ice being thrown in there...much less a puck. He was comfortable with it, that was his way of protesting and it never put us shorthanded...so whatever...I have made it a point to not argue with goalies...

I would accidentally drop like 5 pucks in a row when handing it to a liney. Or cover it and push it to the dot (Niemi style). But putting it in your own net? That’s psycho.

Again, Doc if there are no carryover penalties there are by nature no carryover power plays
Lol that’s just his saying. That’d be like saying “but, Mike Lange, Elvis has been dead for years.”
Dumb saying

Reddit likes to call it “salt” and “living rent free in our heads” when someone breaks the jaw of one of our players off a cheap hit. They don’t know how anything works.
If I'm a caps fan, I'm pissed at Tom Wilson not just for 3 games... but that he took 3 games and only took out a 4th liner. To quote league minimum catcher Jake Taylor... if you were going to pull that **** at least you could have taken out Jake Guentzal.
None of them are angry at Wilson. He's the game 2 and 3 hero, a martyr, sacrificed at the NHL's shrine in tribute to the Pens.

Reading postgame reports from last night, the Caps and (FWIW) their fans are mentally shaken. The Pens really need to score first tomorrow night to nurture the seeds of doubt.
I think the Caps double down on stupid in front of the home fans. Scoring early would be nice. Hope the boys maintain composure and play defense. If they do those two things they win this series.
Agreed on all points. And their fans triple down on the stupid.

Looking at you, Britt McHenry.
