I don't like losing games. But I can live with losing a game if those in the authority roles did their jobs correctly and my team just gets outplayed. I know that I would be mortified if a call that I made in a game in either of the sports that I officiate was wrong and it led to one team or the other having a bigger advantage. Toronto was an embarrassment today and their interpretations of goalie interference and whether a goal was scored directly influenced the result of this game.We didn't lose because of the officiating.
That said, if the Pens would stop playing like morons in the first 15 minutes of games and play a larger majority of the game like they played in the 3rd period of Game 1 and the timeframe from the Connolly goal until the Hornqvist non-goal in Game 2, they'll roll the Caps right out of this series. These slow starts and lackadaisical play needs to stop pronto. The Caps are not a very good defensive team when you get past that first pair and if they throw pucks at Holtby, they'll get the better of that result too.

The elbow coming up negates any rationalization. And this isn’t me saying he elbowed him. He didn’t. But the elbow coming up means intent.Slo-motion replay is a bit deceiving with Tom Wilson hit. Makes it look like he had more time than he did, and Dumoulin turned suddenly into him. I thus don’t think it’s a play that’ll warrant supplemental discipline.

We didn't lose because of the officiating.
They gave the Caps one goal on the interference. Took away one of ours. Let all manner of dangerous hits go unpunished and took away any chance we had with two minor stick infractions late in the game.
We had to play with five defensmen as a result of the Wilson hit and he got to stay in the game.
Normally I would agree with you - officials rarely decide a game - but not today.

If you'd have told me ahead of the series that we'd be coming back to Pittsburgh nodded at 1 without Malkin playing either game, I'd be happy. So now, I'm pretty happy. On to the next game.

The slo-motion is a bit deceiving? That's the stupidest thing I've read in a long time. He aimed for and got the head. He has plenty of history should have been a penalty. Should be a suspension. But the retired goons at Player Safety won't do anything.

When you put it that way, I feel I was too kind in my assessment a page or so earlier. We didn't lose because of the officiating.

The Pens still need to get their crap together from puck drop, however.

Good catch here, Wilson and Ovechkin pulled a very similar move in the series against CBJ:

Also, a lot of guys need to step up. Kessel, Sheahan, Sheary, and Brassard have combined for three goals in the postseason. We HAVE to get more depth scoring. They've come close a bunch of times, but no finish. Have had some bad breaks too...I keep thinking about those two pucks that miraculously got past Holtby and barely slid outside the right post.

I think I'm ready to sit Simon and get Sprong in there. Defense isn't our strong suit these playoffs, so what truly are you holding back with when it comes to Sprong? Simon has shown zero.
