It also wasn’t provorov. It was Laughton or Leighton or Leghorn or whatever that inconsequential depth player who Malkin decided to scumbag for some reason is called.

I'm not sure I see it. Actually just watched the replay for the first time.

It looks like he is getting ready to position himself behind him as they head to boards. He shoves Malkin off balance causing this leg to go up because again, it appears he's getting ready to have it in a certain spot for going into the boards and as he goes off balance it goes that way.

Not trying to be a homer, but I don't see him going for a scumbag move. Maybe I need to watch it again.

I don't think Malkin was trying to slew foot him at all. He half-assedly went into the corner and wasn't ready for Lehtera to initiate contact, fell down, went boom. Malkin gets hit, loses his balance, left leg ends behind Lehtera in an attempt to stay upright, etc. Seeing a slew foot attempt or dirty intensions is delusional.

Lehtera has already knocked Geno back about half a foot at that point. If he is attempting a slew foot, it's an afterthought. He didn't go into the corner with those intentions. I know this, because they didn't intentionally put forth much of any effort in that game.

the bolded part is where this diverges. his left leg moves into a tripping position after contact is initiated. the human brain is not contained in the left leg. malking got hit, didn't like it, so he made an impulsive decision to trip the guy. there was no pre-meditation or anything. this was just one of those things where geno took offense at something benign and did something stupid as a response.

No Evgeni Malkin or Carl Hagelin at practice. At least in terms of stuff we've seen, it's the fifth day in a row not skating for Malkin, the third straight for Hagelin.
