If we can take game 1 without Geno and Hags have to think that will get in their heads a bit, or it might not.In all seriousness I look at two things this series in terms of, I don't want to say intangibles, but similar to that.
The Penguins during 7 games series almost come to break goalies. There have been blowouts in games going back to last year. Lundqvist lol, Holtby to some extent (although he's not blown up or played bad in comparison), Anderson gave up 7 in a game but still hung in there, Rinne had his troubles, the flyers... well....
In any case, a series against the Penguins offense has to be mentally taxing, and even with a few wins against Columbus, I think Holtby is fragile and if not him - the team certainly can be if a bounce or two doesn't go their way - which brings me to my next point - the capitals mental state.
Last year for games 5 and 6 the capitals just stopped caring.. So what if they lost, who cares... it paid dividends as they dominated those two games. They puckered back up in game 7 - and that's my next question. Does being down 2-0 to Columbus provide yet another learning experience of how to loosen up and just play - and will that carry over to this series?

Oh this is for game one only.1.5 per game? or for the series... asking for a friend. For reals. That number is set at 1.5Over/Under for number of penalties resulting in a Pens PP taken by Tom Wilson minus the number of goals he scores in this series.
I say 5

I am hoping for shut outs on the road. I don't want to hear that obnoxious goal siren.

You're pretty spot-on with this one. The Pens got up 3-1 last year because the Caps did everything that they didn't do during their napalming of the regular season. But once they got to Game 5, they were like, 'screw this, we're going back to our normal game' and they skated circles around the Pens in both games. I think the same thing happened early vs Columbus. They're a bunch of mental midgets over there and if they'd stop overanalyzing things and stop answering questions about why the Pens are in their heads, then they could make life very difficult for us over the next couple of weeks.

The official position of hockey analysts is that we struggled with Philly because we went 6 games, so this is also why Washington will win.
Oh heavens no...that was not a 6 game series. That was a delayed sweep. Without Elliot and Neuvirth pulling their magic acts in 2 and 5, it’s a drubbing start to finish.

I heard someone say how close the Preds were last season. Like, dude, they didn’t score for the final hundred and whatever minutes.

I think you can make that case for game 5, but game two was the Pens refusing to get shots on goal. The official position of hockey analysts is that we struggled with Philly because we went 6 games, so this is also why Washington will win.

We kicked their ass in game 2. They scored on their piddly chances. We didn’t score on our many legit ones. There were 18 periods played in that series. By my count, the flyers outplayed us in, at most, 4 of them. And they were never consecutive.I think you can make that case for game 5, but game two was the Pens refusing to get shots on goal. The official position of hockey analysts is that we struggled with Philly because we went 6 games, so this is also why Washington will win.

They outplayed us in game 1 and game 3. It was not a terribly close series. Would have been over in 5 games if Guentzel buries a couple of his glorious chances in game 4.I heard someone say how close the Preds were last season. I for one am elated that Bettman, every ref and the entire mediasphere has wired it for the Pens to win the Cup again.

Elliotte Friedman thinks Barry Trotz told John Tortorella: “I’m gone, I’m gone, I’m not coming back, “I’m gone” at the end of the #ALLCAPS/#CBJ series.
Trotz mailing it in?

That seems unlikely, unless he's retiring at the end of the year, to say that after winning a series...

His contract is up at the end of the season. Maybe just knows he isn't getting renewed with the Caps.

IIRC the rumor is that if the Caps washout here in the second round, he's a goner.

So he wins a Stanley Cup and then the Caps don't bring him back...? I mean, I know Trotz and GMBM don't get along, I got that much...but hell, even beating Pittsburgh in a playoff series is coach-for-life status in "The District"...

Maybe he wants to go else where or is just simply done.
Caps. Round Two.
I find it hard to believe that after a series win, while congratulating the opposing coach, Trotz would say "I'm gone, I'm gone, I'm gone." That makes no sense.
Caps. Round Two.
Maybe what Trotz really said was 'oh, it's on, it's on, it's on like Donkey Kong, yo.'
