The Penguins defense pool...
I am fairly confident in my ability to analyze the abilities of forwards and goalies relatively quickly. However, defensemen usually take me a bit longer, I have to watch them much more than the other two positions. Something that I have not been able to do with WBS D. The recent discussion about Bengtsson leaving and the signing of Birks made me think about what the Pens actually have in WBS as far as blueliners go. I really don't have much of a read on them and wondered if anyone that has watched them can shed some light into the shadows.
Thoughts on these guys? Do they get resigned? Any chance of pulling a Ruhwedel, or more?
The only guys signed through next year:
Taylor, 23 - Saw him in Wheeling, which isn't exactly a good thing.
Summers, 30 - Career AHLer?
Free agents this summer:
Pedan, 24 RFA - No opinion
Prow, 25 RFA - Possible filler quality?
Corrado, 25 RFA - AHLer only?
Tinordi, 26 RFA - Did his hockey skills come from the wrong parent? Cruising on name?
Czuczman, 27 UFA - Does he have a chance as a 6 or 7, or just a solid AHLer?
Trotman, 27 UFA - No opinion
Thoughts?

I don't mean to poo poo this in such a way...but these guys are generally not NHL caliber...Pedan and Tinordi definitely aren't...Corrado does nothing for me...Church and Trots wish they were Warsofsky...Prow I haven't seen a lot of...
Summers could be a 7/8, but why bother...
We don't have a strong group of defensive prospects...this was weakened by Lauzon's neck injury that caused him to miss much of the year...

It's not poo-pooing at all. That is the reason that I was asking. It didn't seem like any of them were even potentially 6/7 level, but I was not sure. I thought that maybe Pedan would do something, but that was simply because I had no opinion to go on.

On HF, someone bucket of chum made a thread explicitly to trade Maatta (our best d-man this year) for a 1st and then replace Maatta with Pedan. Can't make that up...I mean, I would think that no one could make that kind of thing up...but here we are...

Is Pedan good in NHL18? MANY people base their opinions of players heavily on how they play on the 'ole PS/XBox.

I saw that, it was impressive. Trade a first to get a d prospect that we hope to turn into a Maatta level player some day.On HF, someone bucket of chum made a thread explicitly to trade Maatta (our best d-man this year) for a 1st and then replace Maatta with Pedan.
