Dude is going to be a locker room leader as he gets older.

A little long, but he would have found a locker room deal in FA. And honestly, the next few years are this team's best window to win a Cup...if he falls off in 3-4 years, who cares?

Exactly. The final years of his contract might look like the final years of the Dupuis and Kunitz contracts, but what the hell, the next three years are going to be a great ride!

Give him Malkin's or Letang's A. Both are wastes on the ice. The C and A's actually mean something on the ice. The wearers are allowed to do things. Things that Letang doest and Malkin probably doesn't even realize. Right now they are just ego fodder.

I would have preferred three years for him. A little bit too high salary but mainly too many years. However, I guess he would have received a similar contract as UFA...

500k ain’t gotta matter Jack **** in 5 years. The cap will probably he over 90 million by then.

$500K does matter, but its not enough for me to shoot down this deal. Just like Rutherford said he didn't want to move Reaves, but he wasn't going to let that blow getting Brassard. Not optimal, but not a breaker.

I don't think it matters much at all given the steady incline of the cap (see below). Hornqvist @ $5.3m isn't an overpayment, IMO.
