My favorite player on my favorite team is staying...and I'm not that happy about it actually...that's a lot of term for him. 2 yrs @ $5.3 mil is fine...hell, even 3 as a thank you...5...? Well, it's nice to have a jersey of a player that still plays for his team...

Not sure we'll see him make it to the end of that 5 years, but here's hoping.

He’s also the type of player you can trade at the deadline 4 years from now if we suck

That's my thought as well. If he makes it to 37 playing his style than awesome, but he plays a style that could definitely land him on LTIR at the end of his deal.

At which point, his cap hit goes away, right?

Yea. LTIR works through magic but does make cap hits essentially disappear.

I think payroll does not equate to cap hit in a lemieux/burkle run team. And it's refreshing.

The lack of excitement over this is bothersome.

I am thrilled. It's pirate fan mentality to say it's too much money. Hornqvist is the most important player on this team not named Sid, Evgeni or Phil. The team is noticeably different without him and the flash in a pan ZAR has shown in the past few games wasn't enough for me to wave goodbye to horny. Just look at how freaking fired up he was on Saturday night. That's the type of guy you want to go to war with

Gonna be some rough going watching hockey in my 40s but thankfully I have the good folks at 5af off topic to pass the time until we get the next generational talent.

he seems like the type of dude who would allow a team to trade him if they were in a bind - despite any movement clauses.

I am very happy that he is staying. $5.3M isn't bad, but it makes me grimace a little, 5 years makes me grimace a lot. Hornqvist will turn 36 in January of the final year of this deal. Going into his 35 and 36 years of age, I would have liked this to be more of a $4.8M range.

Yes, I am a money guy... $500K can and does make a difference.

Long run though, I had figured that he would be out of here so I give this signing a thumbs up! :thumb:

500k ain’t gotta matter Jack **** in 5 years. The cap will probably he over 90 million by then.

$500K does matter, but its not enough for me to shoot down this deal. Just like Rutherford said he didn't want to move Reaves, but he wasn't going to let that blow getting Brassard. Not optimal, but not a breaker.

I don’t know how this adds up cap wise for next year, but I am most certainly excited about it. Dude is a super man among men.
