I believe that if he were better at C, he'd play C. It's not a very interesting point of view, I admit. I thought he looked competent at C, but his ceiling as a goal scoring winger appears much higher.
I think he’s too smart to be relegated to wing in the long run.

Also: I most certainly have not been belligerent (on this point of discussion).
Dude quit yelling.

I’ll also add that Jordan Staal was not too smart to be hemmed in. He should have stayed at 3C or flipped to wing (on the Pens). Great third line C, but his ego unfortunately won out / and to the detriment of his career.

Guentzel?

I am open to that, but our fearless doesn't seem to want him there. He seems to like the best R and "best" L on the 3rd. So you end up with two 3rd line wings in the top 6, plus cycle two AHL call ups through on L. Hornqvist the lone top 6 wing in the top 6.

Reese has a shot of becoming a Kunitz or Hornqvist type, but is the time to start that development threepete time? Simon, yeah, seriously? If someone is going to try to argue him for a valid top 6 through this June and all that that entails with the grind and importance... no.

Depth D is important, but a bonified L is the top spot to fill.

As I have said, Guentzel's progression as a more complete hockey player this season has been noteworthy...the claim that he is currently better at C is far-fetched, of course and really not one that I subscribe to (nor our coach, nor our GM, more importantly)...

Otherwise, I have no real strong feelings on the matter...I don't know that we're gonna find a top six LW on the market that we can sink our teeth into...

What that tells you is that he is more needed at wing right now. Stop employing reductive logic.

I really can't ever blame the dude for wanting to play with his brother. I can only dream of how cool that would be

If Staal had accepted GMRS's offer, we'd now be paying him something like three times what we're going to be paying Brassard. Omg Jim Rutherford you are the best.

If Staal signed
If Hossa signed (would most likely have been very okay with this for the duration)
If Malone had signed
Etc.

Team would obviously look very different. I think with Staal he could have been moved rather easily on name alone.

I like Cullen. I think Cullen is still a useful NHL player, but what exactly does he add to this team besides a familiar face?

I would take him over Rowney as the 4C. Would you not?

Cullen is as useless to the Pens as tits on a bull. I'd really like to see GMGR get someone to replace Hunwick.

To be fair to Mackey, Michael Russo was still thinking that Cullen is still being looked at by Rutherford. Russo covers the Wild is just as credible as Bobby Mac.

Probably a topic for another thread, but I swear that DK ruined both Mackey and Yohe. I liked both before they went there, but ever since they have been total ****.
