At what point do we start panicking?

Postby Troy Loney » Tue Jan 02, 2018 4:06 pm

We watched the team and the organization fall into relative disarray in the last couple years of Bylsma/Shero. The locker room was an absolute circus...the team just got too loose...offensive teams, at some point, just end up jumping the shark as they get too far away from their fundamentals...in our case, it happened on and off the ice...the organization needed some older school type people to come in and get this thing back on the rails...Crosby, in some regard, was a sizable chunk of the disarray this organization fell into around 2012-2014...he certainly had a hand in it.

I get the window theory, I'm a big proponent of it. I get that most other franchises don't have the league's best player. The part that needs to be considered - that seems to be forgotten - is how rotten this team became in their peaks/primes...saying that it became sour is kind of a misnomer, but maybe the right way to put it is that it got so sweet that it would hurt your teeth just to look at it...
I agree with that, I guess I just see that as an argument to shake up the coaching staff. My perception is that if 2018 becomes a throw away season, then it's more likely that Sullivan gets tuned out. I hope that they turn it around, it seems like they are fully staffed all throughout to do that, yet they look like poo. I also see the peripheral parts of the roster to be more replaceable. I think roster turnover is healthy for this team.

Despite everything, the Pens are still only three points out of the playoffs ... which is why there is no reason to panic. Worry, yes. Vomit, sure. Cry, groan, moan, kick the dog, why not. Panic? No.

The Penguins have ONE regulation win in their last 12 games, a 4-2 win against Arizona, the worst team in the league, which could easily have been a loss. They have five regulation wins in their last 20 games: the one against Arizona, three against Ottawa and Buffalo, the two worst teams in the East, and one against, of all teams, Tampa, thanks to playing half a period 5-on-3 or something. Overall, they have 11 regulation wins in 40 games. Four of those came in the first eight games of the season.

I'll panic if this time next year we're in the same spot.

The Division is still quite a cluster****.

A sweep this weekend would go a long way towards ending any playoff uncertainty.

P2P

prone to panic.

Panic is a relative term though, in that I'm uncertain that they are a playoff lock could be construed as panic.

9-3 record since this thread was created. It was the appropriate time to panic.

Don't you know... You only look back 2 weeks and you do not look forward. Everything is based 100% on the last 2 weeks, period! :scared:

It's also probably not a coincidence that this recent run is tied with Crosby and Malkin picking up their production. They probably were just half assing it for a while hoping that other guys could pick up the slack and they could avoid physical play and injury.

this seems likely. they were disengaged for a while (but in malkin's case, i bet he did ovechkin's summer fitness routine - very cake/pie-oriented).

the roid treatment doesn't start until mid season, usually.

The ongoing steroid meme with Ovechkin is still entertaining. The "must have lost his roids supplier" stuff when he was slumping a few years back was equally entertaining.
