i don't understand a person like bobby ryan. like...i don't understand trash talking in general, but i really don't understand directing it at sid. last night or ever.

...he was drafted ahead of you, he is objectively superior to you, he makes more than you but he's underpaid and you're overpaid, he beat you last year in the one chance you'll ever have to go to another cup final, he was beating you last night. like...what is he even possibly saying other than calling him some sort of slur?

I used to have a certain role on some teams I played on when I was younger and it involved a lot of talking and not a lot of scoring...the talking is to get them distracted and get them focused on you instead of playing...sometimes players that try too hard **** up a lot...sometimes it wakes them (angry Geno, for instance, much better when challenged), you have to feel that out...but if trash talk was limited to the best player on the rink, Esa Tikkanen would have been in a real tough spot...it just doesn't work like that...

I can say that trash talk legitimately does work, I've gotten a lot of players thrown out of games or at least into the penalty box by just a little light stick work and some chitter chatter...there's some weird stuff that gets said too, it's gotten weirder over time for sure...
