The backstory on Lange's phrases is what does it for me, almost as much as me simply enjoying them in general.

I agree with shmenguin. Lange is a got dang legend, but he can't call a good game anymore.

Bad take call-outs should be resolved for things that are so unreasonable that they can't be real...not liking Mike Lange, while semi-blasphemous in the Pittsburgh area, is still reasonable. He says a bunch of goof ball irrelevant **** after a goal and he's lost his ability to really call a good game...yeah, he's a legend, but it's like Doc...I like Doc, but it's reasonable to say that you don't like him...

His last few years on TV were painful. And that was what...15+ years ago? Can't imagine what he's like now, though I did hear that he improved significantly once he left TV - at first, anyways.I agree with shmenguin. Lange is a got dang legend, but he can't call a good game anymore.

This city allowed Myron Cope to be incoherent on a microphone for decades too long. Lange ain't going anywhere.

To be fair, the product on ice was also extremely painful.His last few years on TV were painful. And that was what...15+ years ago? They played some of his calls at the arena last night.
Haven't listened to him much this year but he sounds terrible. Like, voice cracking and cutting in and out because he doesn't have the lung capacity to talk like that, terrible.

Plus he uses a really old mic/headset combo that makes him sound like he's broadcasting from a low wattage station out in Fayette county.

Plus he has this frail frame and wears suit jackets with gigantic shoulder pads. I don't know what that contributes to, I just wanted to point out that he's looking like a Little Rascal pretending to be an adult.
