Mike Lange plans to call significantly fewer away games

While he's working all home games, he's planning to work "approximately 15" road games. Josh Getzoff will handle the rest. Lange said at this stage in his career it makes sense to cut back on the travel.

I've said for the past few years, Lange hasn't looked well. But I honestly don't know if he is ill.

Like I said elsewhere, it works for Steve Blass. Hopefully, it will keep Lange on the air longer.

At the end of the broadcast tonight Phil Bourque made it a point to mention in reply to all the questions about Mike Lange's health that Mike was OK and the decision is not health related.

Josh Getzoff is getting better every game, he called the preseason games last year and had a bit of PbP experience before joining the Pens. That was one reason why they hired him.
Tonight he was basically in mid-season form, a very smooth game call, no mistakes, easy transitions in and out of breaks, good chemistry with Old 29er.
There is nothing to worry about, he is going to do a very good job. He can probably slow down a tad and not try to be so precise but he'll learn that.

He's replacing / filling in for one of the greatest of all time in any sport. He can't and won't win the fan base over sadly. Not to mention he ended up replacing Grover when he first arrived. I hope he does great and I'm sure he'll be fine, but I feel bad for the spots he has been asked to fill by the Pens.

How long did it take people to stop the constant criticism of Ryan Mill and just accept him as the new norm. Its what happens when you replace a legend and a fan favorite. You do the best you can and you definitely don't try to replicate who you are replacing. I fear for the person who becomes the regular anthem singer when Jimmerson calls it a day.

It annoys me that Mears yells "Robbed!" several times a game when a goalie makes a (sometimes relatively routine) save.
