At this point it would be better to miss the playoffs for the minuscule chance of winning the McDavid lottery

What are the odds of moving up from the 2nd round to the first overall pick?

I think we can trick EDM in trading the pick back for Perron

I wonder if Edmonton would have accepted the trade if lottery insurance was added to it (like the LA trade for Sekera)? Just a minute point, and I'm sure GMJR didn't even consider it... but it's now looking like a pretty big oversight.

People --- WE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THE DRAFT LOTTERY!

And really - does everyone forget WE DON'T OWN A 1ST ROUND PICK ANY LONGER?

Idk what to think. I think missing the playoffs might be the wake-up call this organization needs but what do they do? You don't trade 87 or 71 imo. What do they do? Fire MJ? I wouldn’t agree with it unless Babcock was a 100 percent lock to come here. That won't happen. Fire GMJR after one year with the mess that Shero left? No imo. I just don't know how they fix this. If I did I would be wealthy lol.

If we miss the playoffs we will win the draft lottery. That's how much a kick in the nuts this is going to be.

My thoughts from last off-season haven't changed. You can put Stan Pollock and Scotty Bowman in charge and you'd get the same result... they're nothing but bodies.

What kind of organization forces a specific assistant coach upon their head coach? The same one that has a committee of GMs.

There are problems, but they come from the top and trickle down.

Could you imagine the outrage if the Pens still had their first round pick and someone won the lottery? Philly and maybe Toronto would burn. Seriously.

Though I understand why Mario may have wanted to have eyes and ears in the lockerroom after the Shero/Bylsma fiasco, in retrospect foisting Tocchet on MJ may not have been a good thing. And I recall that the Tocchet requirement was why Desjardins didn't take the job. Oh well.

Rob Rossi has said if the Pens miss the playoffs:

1) Burkle will sell the team
2) Both Crosby and Malkin want to leave as they don't respect the coaches and hate the team
3) There is complete disarray in the lockerroom

I'm sure he will also add that the Pens have an out clause in the arena and will move and the NHL will permantely ban Pittsburgh from being a market ever again.

The good thing about playing the isles is that they might be more nervous about losing than the Pens will be. They needed one point I guess and allowed Philly to score with 4 seconds left in regulation to lose the game.

1) I could see it happening, that Colligon(sp) article was great yesterday.
2) I see one of them leaving, that being Malkin because the Pens won't trade Crosby unless he demands it.
3) I believe it to be true.

Now all that being said, Rossi couldn't be further removed from the locker room, he likely has any idea of what to think of all of this given that he hasn't had access to the players in a day to day basis for a year now.

By the time Friday rolls around, the Pens could be on the outside looking in, right?

That's incredible.

Rob Rossi also said last year that there was no possible way that Bulsma wouldn't be fired at the next day's press conference and the search for a new coach was underway. The next day the Pens announced the firing of Shero and Bylsma's retention. When he doesn't have an axe to grind, Rossi can be pretty insightful. However, everything he says in regards to the Pens is out of smite and absolute bitterness.

Back during the arena saga, I remember I emailed Rossi and asked his thoughts about the final meeting before the agreement for a new arena was made. His response was that he had a bad feeling, nothing has been working during these negotiations for a new arena, and his feeling was that the Pens were probably moving from what he had been hearing.

The next day they came to an agreement.

Geno has much more faith than I do.
“Each team tries to beat us, but I believe in this group so much. Every player here,” Malkin said. “We work hard every practice. A little bit of bad luck the last two games, but I still believe we play in playoffs and it doesn’t matter which team.”

The Pens are in control of their destiny heading into their last couple of contests on Friday against the NY Islanders and Saturday in Buffalo. Because it doesn’t matter what the Senators and Boston Bruins do – if the Penguins get three points over their next two games, they’re in. And Malkin is confident they will be.

“I know everyone is nervous right now, but we talked to the team, we talked to the players, and said it’s a tough situation, we know, but we’re still in,” he said. “We’re still in playoffs and I’ve played here a long time, it’s the first time (I’ve gone through this), but we need to work and just win the next two games, forget the situation and start playing in the playoffs.”
