The Eagles comparison is interesting, and the window does seem to be getting smaller six years removed from that glorious run. Depending on how this goes rebuilding does have to be a consideration

Outside of the financial duress of the franchise, you simply don't trade players like Sid or Geno. They are generational talents, and you build the team around them, not sending them somewhere else and making do with what you get in return.

That said, I'm not convinced Sid's head is right, and Geno (who I actually think is more talented) can be frustrating at times.

Kopitar, Kane, Toews, Brown, Quick - aren't necessarily generational talents.

Toews comes closest from that list......... but I still put him several notches below Sid and Geno. He's like a modern day Ron Francis.

who's in the top tier? Sid, Geno, Ovie and Lundqvist? is anyone else that high?

Source of the post I see them bringing back Comeau, but I think Downie is gone (along with Tocchet) and no way Erhoff or Lapierre and Winnik are back. Paul Martin won't likely be back.
Just curious why you think an assistant coach that was hired by ownership before the head coach was hired would be gone after one season?

Tocchet has a history of wearing out his welcome and the reasons for his hire haven't come about. There will be a cull of the coaching staff after this season (whether that is warranted or not is a different question).

That's an interesting take, considering it normally takes time for a coaching staff to implement their stuff.

Why do you think they're going to fire people?

I wouldn't put any goalie that high.

I think Toews is overrated. Very good hockey player, sure.

Stamkos has to be up there though near the top.

Stamkos might be having the quietest 40 goal season in recent memory. Had no idea he had that many. I thought he dropped off because no one is really talking about him this year.

He hasn't been exactly the same hockey player he was before his leg breaking. But the dude is phenomenal. There is so much talent in the NHL right now, and the product that it is producing is...lacking. Its a letdown.

It feels like no one is talking about TB at all. I keep thinking they'll put it all together, but each year never really seems any different. Almost like they are in a rut; competitive, but not contenders.

Theyre very firmly in the discussion as best in the league...at least standingswise.
